Strengthening Community Engagement in Warsheikh
For the first time since the council’s formation in January 2024, the Warsheikh administration has officially visited villages to engage directly with the community. Given that the council members were not directly elected, this initiative provided a crucial opportunity for them to meet their constituents, listen to their concerns, and foster stronger relationships.
The Warsheikh Community Sensitization and Awareness Activity began in Gambiso village, with participation from the Hirshabelle State Minister of Interior, the Warsheikh District Commissioner, his deputy, and district council members. Representatives from Gambiso, Bakarole, and Shiiqyale villages, including elders, women, youth, religious leaders, and business community members, took part in discussions.
This engagement serves as a platform for inclusive dialogue on governance, development priorities, and service delivery. A key focus was on the relationship between taxation and representation, emphasizing the importance of revenue generation in enabling the administration to provide essential services and address community needs.
So far, 6 villages have been visited, with each village hosting discussions for nearby villages. The program will continue for seven days, covering all 21 villages, ensuring broad participation and meaningful engagement.
This initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing collaboration between local authorities and communities, ensuring that governance in Warsheikh is inclusive, transparent, and responsive to the needs of its people.
