🐾 Lycaon Project 🐾 | Journée Internationale de la Biodiversité

Le Projet Lycaon a participé, aux côtés de son partenaire clé, le Parc national du Niokolo-Koba, à la célébration de la Journée Internationale de la Biodiversité 2026, placée sous le thème : « Agir localement pour un impact mondial ».

Cette journée a été marquée par la redynamisation du Réseau des Maires de la périphérie du PNNK, réunissant la Direction des Parcs Nationaux, les partenaires du parc et les élus locaux.

Les échanges ont permis de :
Renforcer les engagements pour la conservation du PNNK ;
Élire le nouveau bureau du Réseau des Maires ;
Définir les orientations du plan d’action ;
Adopter une charte de bonne gouvernance des RNC autour du parc.

À travers cette initiative, les acteurs locaux réaffirment leur engagement en faveur d’une gestion durable des ressources naturelles et de la biodiversité.

Le Projet Darwin est financé par le du Royaume-Uni à travers l’Initiative Darwin.

🐾 Lycaon Project 🐾 | International Day for Biological Diversity

The Lycaon Project participated alongside its key partner, the Niokolo-Koba National Park (PNNK), in the celebration of the 2026 International Day for Biological Diversity, under the theme: “Act locally for global impact.”

This event was marked by the revitalization of the Mayors’ Network around the PNNK, bringing together the National Parks Directorate, park partners, and local elected officials.

The discussions helped to:

Strengthen commitments to the conservation of the PNNK;
Elect the new executive board of the Mayors’ Network;
Define the orientations of the action plan;
Adopt a good governance charter for Community Nature Reserves (RNCs) around the park.

Through this initiative, local stakeholders reaffirm their commitment to sustainable natural resource management and biodiversity conservation.

🐾 Une visite de haut niveau pour le Projet Lycaon 🐾

Le Projet Lycaon a eu l’honneur de recevoir la visite du Ministre de l’Environnement et de la Transition Écologique, le Dr Abdourahmane DIOUF, lors de sa tournée dans la région de Tambacounda.

Cette rencontre fait suite au plan d’action national pour la conservation des lycaons, récemment validé par le ministère.
Une visite qui témoigne de l’intérêt des autorités pour la sauvegarde de la dernière population de lycaons d’Afrique de l’Ouest. Une population unique et irremplaçable



🐾 A high-level visit for the Lycaon Project! 🐾

The Lycaon Project had the honor of receiving a visit from the Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, Dr. Abdourahmane Diouf, during his tour of the Tambacounda region.

This meeting follows the national action plan for the conservation of African wild dogs, recently validated by the Ministry.
A visit that reflects the authorities’ commitment to safeguarding the last remaining population of African wild dogs in West Africa—a unique and irreplaceable population.

📍 Dans le cadre du projet Lycaon, des ateliers de partage sur les bonnes pratiques locales pour la réduction du conflit Homme-Faune sauvage ont été organisés les 24, 27 et 29 janvier 2026 à Linkering, Dialacoto et Tomboronkoto, réunissant chefs de village, responsables d’éleveurs, agents des Parcs nationaux, agents de liaison et guides communautaires.

🔎 Les échanges ont permis d’identifier les sources et impacts du conflit et de co-construire des solutions et pratiques locales pour sécuriser le bétail et protéger la faune sauvage.

🤝 Ensemble avec les communautés pour une coexistence harmonieuse avec la faune sauvage au Niokolo-Koba.

📍 As part of the Lycaon Project, knowledge-sharing workshops on local best practices for reducing Human–Wildlife Conflict were organized on January 24, 27, and 29, 2026, in Linkering, Dialacoto, and Tomboronkoto, bringing together village chiefs, livestock leaders, national park officers, liaison agents, and community guides.

🔎 The discussions helped identify the sources and impacts of the conflict and co-develop local solutions and practices to secure livestock and protect wildlife.

🤝 Working together with communities for harmonious coexistence with wildlife in Niokolo-Koba.

🐓 Projet Lycaon | Distribution de poulets dans les communes de Tomboronko et de Linkering

Cette activité vise à renforcer l’élevage familial à travers la distribution de poulets aux ménages.
L’objectif est double :
✔️ Réduire le braconnage, en offrant une alternative économique durable
✔️ Améliorer la sécurité alimentaire des communautés locales
Ceci entre dans le cadre du Projet Lycaon, conformément au Résultat 2 – Le bien-être des personnes vivant à la périphérie du parc national du Niokolo-Koba s'améliore à mesure que leurs impacts sur le parc diminuent.
🌿 En soutenant des solutions locales et durables, le Projet Lycaon contribue à la protection de la faune sauvage tout en renforçant la résilience des communautés vivant à la périphérie du parc.

🐓 Lycaon Project |Distribution of chickens in the municipalities of Tomboronko and Linkering

This activity aims to strengthen family-based poultry farming through the distribution of chickens to households.
The objective is twofold:
✔️ Reduce poaching by providing a sustainable economic alternative
✔️ Improve food security for local communities
This activity is part of the Lycaon Project, in line with Result 2 – The well-being of people living around the Niokolo-Koba National Park improves as their impacts on the park decrease.
🌿 By supporting local and sustainable solutions, the Lycaon Project contributes to the protection of wildlife while strengthening the resilience of communities living around the park.

📢 Réunion trimestrielle du Projet Darwin Nous avons tenu ce mardi 9 décembre 2025, à l’Hôtel Malahika de tambacounda la réunion trimestrielle du Comité de projet Darwin. Ce cadre d’échange a réuni de nombreux partenaires engagés dans la conservation autour du Parc national du Niokolo-Koba : DPN, DSV, Am Be Koun, Panthera, ZSL, Antelope Conservation, CIRAD, ASVF (Association des Guides Touristiques), entre autres. 🤝 Cette rencontre a permis de faire le point sur les activités réalisées, de partager les avancées, et de planifier les prochaines étapes pour renforcer notre action collective en faveur de la protection de la biodiversité.

📢 Darwin Project Quarterly Meeting

This Tuesday, December 9, 2025, we held the quarterly meeting of the Darwin Project Committee at the Malahika Hotel in Tambacounda.

This exchange platform brought together many partners committed to conservation around the Niokolo-Koba National Park: DPN, DSV, Am Be Koun, Panthera, ZSL, Antelope Conservation, CIRAD, ASVF (Association of Tourist Guides), among others.

🤝 This meeting provided an opportunity to review activities carried out, share progress, and plan the next steps to strengthen our collective action in favor of biodiversity conservation.
