TrustAfrica

TrustAfrica TrustAfrica is an African Foundation striving to secure the conditions for democratic governance and equitable development throughout the continent.

TrustAfrica is not just a new Foundation. It is a new kind of Foundation, led by Africans with a devotion to inclusive dialogue. TrustAfrica brings a pioneering approach to development and philanthropy in Africa. These are some of qualities that set us apart:

TrustAfrica is an African institution

• We are rooted in the continent unlike most donors. From our headquarters in Dakar, we have a prime

vantage on the challenges and opportunities facing Africa.

• We are led by Africans. Our trustees and staff, recruited throughout Africa and abroad, share extensive experience in development and philanthropy and an unwavering commitment to good governance.

• We are building a broad base of support. Our $100-per-year campaign is generating a groundswell of enthusiasm among Africans living on the continent and in the diaspora. Donate online at http://www.trustafrica.org/give. TrustAfrica helps Africans set the agenda for development

• We do not take our cues from external donors, nor do we push an agenda of our own making. Instead, we host workshops that allow leading figures from across the continent to shape our program strategy by identifying needs, setting priorities, crafting solutions, and making recommendations for funding.

• Our workshops have drawn hundreds of visionary scholars, activists, artists, entrepreneurs, and policy makers from across Africa and throughout the diaspora. We’ve already given more than US$5.3 million to support dozens of projects that grew out of these dialogues. These initiatives are more likely to win acceptance and make a lasting impact than ready-made responses imposed from elsewhere.

The Reclaim Sustainability program is giving back power to those who do most of the work — Farmers, through Fair Value Distribution

In today’s global economy, the quest for fairness in value chains for small-scale producers in agricultural value chains is increasingly linked to the politics of pricing and the power dynamics that govern global trade.

Celebrating Progress in the Fight Against Illicit Financial Flows
On October 8, 2025, TrustAfrica and its partners from the Stop the Bleeding (STB) Campaign hosted a powerful reception during the 13th Pan-African Conference on Illicit Financial Flows and Taxation (PAC). Under the leadership of Briggs Bomba, TrustAfrica’s Programme Director, the evening brought together changemakers, advocates, and policy leaders to reflect on the campaign’s journey and celebrate its achievements.
The reception was a moment to honor the milestones reached in the fight against IFFs, acknowledge the collective efforts of civil society, and recommit to the vision of financial justice across Africa. From grassroots mobilization to policy influence, the STB Campaign continues to be a driving force for change.
TrustAfrica remains committed to amplifying African voices and building strategic alliances to end IFFs. Together, we are shaping a future where Africa’s wealth benefits its people.

Powerful Calls for African-Led Financing and Collaboration as the 6th African Philanthropy Conference Concludes in Cairo
From feminist funding models to tax justice, from climate-responsive giving to participatory grant making, the 6th African Philanthropy Conference (APC) closed with an unmistakable message: Africa is not only ready to lead its own development agenda, it already is.
Held for the first time in North Africa, at the American University in Cairo (AUC), the 2025 edition of the APC drew over 300 participants from across the continent and diaspora. The five-day event combined two days of academic sessions with three days of high-level convening for funders, researchers, civil society actors, policymakers, movement leaders, and social investors. It unfolded under the theme: “Sustainable Financing for Development in the Majority World.”

The words of 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗘𝗵𝗮𝗯 𝗔𝗱𝗯𝗲𝗹-𝗥𝗮𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗻 are a powerful foundation of why we have gathered at this year's conference. The urgency for frameworks that are equitable and reflective of Africa's diversity and potential is increasingly evident. This year's theme of "Sustainable Financing for Development in the Majority World" provides delegates with a platform to progressively move towards inclusive solutions that serve all Africans.

Today is the second day of the academic dimensions, where several researchers will share their latest work with fellow academics and practitioners from the sector.
