Based in Senegal, and registered in the US, we are dedicated to creating viable solutions for low-income to satisfy their basic energy needs in a safer, cheaper and environmentally friendly way. t the “poverty tax”, the phenomenon whereby the poorest pay the most for basic services that are also proven to cause significant health problems and environmental degradation. Such basic services include cooking fuel, transport, communications, lighting and financial services. SEM believes that the best way to combat poverty, while at the same time creating health and environmental benefits, is to eliminate the poverty tax. In Senegal, we have distributed:
• Over 5,000 solar lights so far;
• Over 8 tonnes of biomass;
• 27,000 trees planted;
• 100 stoves to date;
• over 340,000 USD to micro-entrepreneurs
• 0ver 2800 borrowers directly accessing our credits
• 90% of funds distributed to women
• 150 micro-entrepreneurs trained
