We had three objectives this, our fourth trip to Senegal. First, to complete the LifePump project. Second, to plan a solution to the problem of water on the plateau. And finally, to meeting with the government in hopes of a future partnership.

It is safe to say we have met the mission and accomplished all three objectives.

Our meeting with OFOR was very good. First, we have greater credibility, now that we have traveled to Senegal four times.

They are pleased with our success installing the LifePumps and are interested in the satellite link and data they are receiving. One of the problems they have, is when the government installs a pump, if it fails, they have no way of knowing. The LifePump might be a solution.

They are even more interested in our plans, presented by Emmanuel of Batifort to bring water to the plateau. They tell us they have many people living on plateaus in Senegal, and often water is a big problem. And being engineers, they like a challenge. Perhaps we will return again.

Monday is our last day and our journey home begins Tuesday morning early. We have a last lunch in Dakar, before our 3pm meeting with OFOR. The best news is that Badou would like to be our liason with OFOR going forward and asks to join the meeting. Sabina who has been with us since inception, now lives in Luxembourg, though she comes back to Dakar regularly. Vincent is will also be in the meeting to help with translation and take some notes for the record.

Sunday, we were invited to a celebration of life for Ghislane Dorego's parents. Ghislane is a past President of Dakar Soleil and a good friend. We didn't know what to expect and in the end, were treated a marvelous celebration and great lunch.

A couple of hours later, we are in Dakar at the home of Badou where we will rest until Monday, when we have a meeting with OFOR, the government department responsible for rural water systems.

Sunday we meet with Emmanuel to plan our meeting with OFOR. The agenda for the meeting is to report on our success installing the LifePumps and secondly, to share our ambition to bring water to the plateau where we first failed.

We weren't prepared for any formalities, but we make do.

It is common practice for visiting Rotarians to share their Club banner with whatever Club they are visiting. Not having one, I have an extra plaque that we had been placing on the successful LifePumps. What else does one do, but present the plaque to my good friend Badou for the Dakar Soleil Club to add to their banner collection.

Arriving in Saly nine hours later, we make it in time to visit with Rotary International President Stephanie, who is visiting this West Africa Rotary District. Sabina had laid the pipe so to speak, to make this happen. And of course, there is general excitement seeing all of our friends and partners from the Dakar Soleil Rotary Club.

With the program's conclusion, President Stephanie comes by to visit and learn a bit about what we have been doing in SE Senegal. You just never know who you will meet in Senegal.

We had planned to stay in a hotel (again, arranged by Sabina from Luxembourg). However, Badou Dafe of Dakar Soleil will not hear of it, and insists we all stay with him at his home in Dakar.

We stop briefly in Tambacounda to fuel the car and ourselves. We often discuss how busy everyone is in Senegal; And you see that everywhere. Part of it I'm sure is Senegal can be lean on resources and assistance, so you must rely on yourself and your family. All have to help out to put food on the table.
