Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Program (WEGEP) is a Non-governmental, non-profit making organization founded to help empower women and girls.

Women Empowerment and Gender Equality program (WEGEP) is a Non Governmental, non-profit making organization founded by Visionary Madam Beatrice Darbo on the of October, 2014. while doing research in Tombo, a fishing area in the Western Rural District, it was discovered that gender discrimination was rampant in the District. Not only were the Women in the region uneducated and unemployed, but were

also given to early marriage and no say in the decision making processes that included them and their families. Findings of the study also revealed that women in the District also face challenges of unwanted teenage pregnancies, violence and human trafficking. To combat this increasingly alarming issues, Madam Darbo, who had passion for the marginalized, started a comprehensive programme on the empowerment of women to bridge the gap in gender inequality in the District. The basis of our organization, therefore, emerged from the persistent gender poor women in rural areas.
