Yesterday the 22nd of May 2026, Lift-Serra LEONE
Outreach officers visited one of the Anti FGM school clubs of influence at the RC primary school Yoni Bana , the purpose of the engagement was to follow up on the activities and awareness raising programs we have been carrying out with the clubs overtime.
During the meeting. Aminata Jeneba Lebbie of class 4 shared how she convinced her grandmother not to take her for FGM. Through discussions and awareness she was able to make her grandmother understand the risks involved and in the end she succeeded in stopping it.
Her decision showed courage and served as a positive example for other girls in the school and the community. and she promised that she will never go for FGM because of the dangers and harmful effects associated with the practice. Thank you to

15 girls (18yrs and above) graduated from a bloodless bondo initiation in Mile 91. These wonderful girls successfully learnt about their tradition and culture without a drop of blood. We are excited to pilot this great initiative in Yoni Chiefdom, and grateful to the Soweis who accepted the Alternative Rites of Passage (ARP) concept.

Maintain the culture and remove the cutting... it is our goal as we fight against FGM/C in Tonkolili District. Lift-Serra LEONE is supporting the initiation of girls into the bondo society but without cutting any part of their bodies. The introduction of the Alternative Rites of Passage (ARP) is a blessing to young girls who have been craving to learn about their culture but afraid of the cutting.
