The Western Area Peninsula National Park is one of Sierra Leone’s greatest natural treasures.

Our forests, rivers, and wildlife are not just resources: they are life.

EFA is working hand in hand with community members to protect and restore the Peninsula. Planting trees, nurturing them, and safeguarding our National Park. 🌱

Earlier this year, the EFA team prepared seedlings collected from Tiwai Island, which were planted at the end of September in the Western Area Peninsula National Park.

These native seedlings are now growing strong, helping restore degraded forest areas, protect water sources, and bring back biodiversity to our National Park. 🌳

*Exciting visit from American International School in Freetown*

Our Director, Tommy Garnett, had a fantastic time sharing knowledge about the importance of conservation and sustainability with these bright minds. He took them on a journey through "Yesterday's Paradise, Today's Realities, and the Future" highlighting the impact of human activities on our forests and the need for reforestation.

The students were amazed by the stunning images of deforestation in the Western Area Peninsula National Park and were inspired by the restoration efforts at our Comfort Bridge site. They even got to see trees planted by their schoolmates!

Tommy's message was clear: "Take care of Mother Earth, and she will in turn take care you."

We're grateful for the opportunity to educate and inspire the next generation of environmental leaders!

Over the past few weeks, the EFA team met with communities in Mile13, Number 2 and Tokeh to plan October activities under our new Western Area Peninsula restoration project. We discussed forest protection, tree maintenance and future community patrols to keep our forest safe. We are working hand in hand with these communities to help restore and heal our forest, and to keep the Peninsula Green for the future generations.

The Western Area Peninsula has long suffered from deforestation. When the forests are cut down, rivers dry up, wildlife disappears, erosion increases.

Through the Western Area Peninsula Project, EFA has been and is still trying to heal and restore these vital lands: planting trees, reviving ecosystems and protecting the future of our city.

The deforestation of the Westen Area Peninsula doesn’t just harm nature it also threatens Guma Valley: our main source of water in Freetown.

At EFA, we believe restoration begins with awareness.

Comfort Bridge is one of the areas most affected by deforestation, around the Western Area Peninsular Park. But it is also a place where healing the land is still possible.

In this video, our Founder takes you to Comfort Bridge, showing both the damage caused by deforestation and the areas where we must focus our efforts to restore balance, protect biodiversity, and build a greener future for all.
