Now I Know My Rights” - A Young Woman Reclaims Her Voice
Before joining the Youths in Politics and Peacebuilding Project, ABIOSEH Williams of the Progressive Youths Group in Port Loko often felt excluded from decisions that affected her future. Like many young people, she lacked the information, confidence, and opportunities needed to participate meaningfully in civic and political processes.
Through training, dialogue sessions, mentorship, and civic education provided by Caritas Sierra Leone Makeni with support from the UN Peacebuilding Fund, ABIOSEH gained the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions, advocate for her rights, and contribute positively to her community.
"Today, I know my rights. I can speak for myself, make informed decisions, and no politician can mislead me again," she says proudly.
ABIOSEH's transformation reflects the impact of investing in young people. Across Port Loko District, many youths have become more informed, confident, and committed to peace and good governance. Yet many others remain unreached and continue to face the same challenges of exclusion, misinformation, and vulnerability.
With additional support from partners and donors, we can extend these opportunities to more young people, strengthen peacebuilding efforts, and empower the next generation of leaders across Sierra Leone.
The change has begun. Help us reach those still waiting for their chance to be heard.
