She Is a Child, Not Content: Every Share Is Another Act of Violence

The Rural Women for Community Development Organization (RWCDO) is deeply disturbed by the recent circulation of a teenage girl's n**e video across social media. What is even more heartbreaking is seeing individuals and bloggers continue to share and repost the video, turning a child's trauma into online content.

Let us be clear: this is not entertainment. This is Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV).

Behind every shared video is a young girl whose dignity, mental health, education, and future are being destroyed. The internet never forgets, and the emotional scars of this abuse can last a lifetime.

As a society, we must ask ourselves: Are we protecting our children, or are we becoming part of the violence against them?

RWCDO reminds the public that creating, sharing, downloading, saving, or forwarding sexual or intimate content involving a child is not only morally wrong but may also constitute a criminal offence under the laws of Sierra Leone.

Children deserve protection, compassion, and justice—not public humiliation.

We therefore call on:

Parents and guardians to strengthen digital parenting by talking openly with their children about online safety and responsible internet use.

Bloggers, media houses, and social media users to immediately stop sharing harmful content involving children and instead report it to the appropriate authorities and online platforms.

Government institutions, schools, and civil society organizations to intensify efforts to educate communities about online safety and the dangers of Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence.

Every citizen to choose empathy over exploitation and protection over publicity.

Today it is someone else's daughter.

Tomorrow it could be yours.

The future of every girl matters. Let us stop normalizing digital violence and start protecting the dignity and rights of every child.

Rural Women for Community Development Organization (RWCDO) is proud to be participating in the MRU YouthConnekt Forum 2026.
At the exhibition, we showcased our innovative and environmentally friendly products, including our organic fertilizer and briquette charcoal, demonstrating how youth-led and women-led enterprises can contribute to sustainable development, climate action, and economic empowerment.
As entrepreneurs and advocates, we are committed to creating green solutions that improve livelihoods while protecting the environment. This platform has provided us with a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow innovators, partners, and development actors from across the Mano River Union region.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Plan International for making our participation possible and for their continued support to young peopl@e and women entrepreneurs. We also thank UNDP for initiating and supporting platforms that empower youth innovation and entrepreneurship across the region.

My fellow Sierra Leoneans,
As we approach our Independence Day this Monday, Rural Women for Community Development Organisation (RWCDO) makes a humble and heartfelt appeal to our nation.
We plead on behalf of Zainab Shariff to be considered for a Presidential Pardon under the Prerogative of Mercy.
In this spirit of national reflection and unity, we respectfully call on His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, Her Excellency First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, the Honourable Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, the Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, and the Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy to kindly review her case with compassion and fairness.
Independence is not only about freedom as a nation, but also about hope, dignity, and the opportunity for individuals to rebuild their lives. As a country, we believe in justice but also in mercy, rehabilitation, and second chances.
Zainab Shariff is more than her past. She is a daughter, a sister, and a citizen who still has the potential to contribute positively to society.
As we celebrate this important moment in our nation’s history, let mercy guide our actions and compassion shape our decisions.
