Sometimes we walk into banks to access our own money, yet we are treated as if we came to beg. We are customers, not beggars.
To all banks and service providers in Sierra Leone, we wish you a blessed Customer Service Week. ❤️
But please, let the celebration come with real change. We deserve respect, professionalism and better service.

🌍✊🏾 PUT WOMEN’S LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCE RIGHTS AT THE CENTRE OF AFRICA’S CLIMATE ACTION!

As Africa advances its climate and development agenda, the voices, rights and lived realities of women must be at the heart of policy and decision-making.

Ahead of the 14th Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-XIV), we are calling for bold, feminist and transformative policy recommendations that recognise women’s land and natural resource rights as fundamental to climate justice, sustainable development and resilient communities.

I am deeply heartbroken by the tragic loss of my friend, Wivine Mapati, whom I met in Ethiopia during the Nairobi Seminar last year in August. 💔
Wivine was a beautiful soul, a professional, a friend, and most importantly, a mother to a young son who must now grow up without his mother.
The circumstances surrounding her death are deeply disturbing, and the growing cases of femicide across Africa are becoming increasingly alarming. Women and girls deserve to live, work, travel, and exist without fear of violence.
Wivine’s death must not be forgotten. We need justice, accountability, and urgent action to end violence against women.
Rest in power, Wivine. 🕊️ Your life mattered, and your story must be heard.

RWCDO Calls for Justice and Protection Following Alleged Sexual Assault of a 2-Year-Old Child in Kono District
Freetown, Sierra Leone — 29 August 2026
Rural Women for Community Development Organization (RWCDO) is deeply saddened and alarmed by reports of the alleged sexual assault of a 2-year-old child in Kono District involving a 52-year-old man.
We strongly condemn all forms of sexual violence against children. No child should ever be subjected to such abuse, and the age of this child makes the reported incident particularly heartbreaking and disturbing.
RWCDO calls on the relevant authorities to conduct a swift, thorough, and impartial investigation and to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law. We further call for the child and family to receive appropriate protection, psychosocial support, and access to child-centred services throughout the process.
As an organization committed to protecting women, girls, and vulnerable communities, we believe that children’s safety, dignity, and rights must always come first.
We urge communities to speak out against sexual violence, protect survivors from stigma, and report suspected cases through the appropriate authorities.
A child cannot protect themselves alone. We must protect them. Justice must be served.

SHOULD I BEAR MY HUSBAND'S NAME?

Let’s talk about this name thing.

Some women are saying “I will NEVER bear my husband’s name.
“I’m keeping my father’s name, I don’t want to lose my identity. What about my father’s lineage?”

In Africa, name is a true representation of identity and not the other way round. For years, only sons carried the name and it has become a debate in the contemporary world.

But here’s the truth:
Bearing his name doesn’t mean he owns you.
Keeping your name doesn’t mean you don’t respect him.

The name is just a symbol.
What matters is: Is there love? Is there respect? Is there partnership?

Do what works for you and your husband.
Whether you change it or not, you’re still you and still valuable as queen.

A Heartbreaking Loss
On August 18, just one week ago, this young woman was on TikTok, looking healthy, vibrant and full of life, passionately advocating for the government to release the seized NPAC resorts.
Today, August 25, she is gone. Just seven days.
What makes this loss even more painful is the reported struggle over her outstanding hospital bill, with her remains still at the hospital while her family seeks support to bring her home and bury her with dignity.
At RWCDO, we believe this should make us all reflect deeply on healthcare access and the burden placed on families who cannot afford medical care.
We are also deeply disturbed by a comment reportedly made about her under that same TikTok post on August 18. We are not suggesting that the comment caused her death, as there is no evidence to establish that. However, seeing those words now, after her passing, is deeply disturbing.
Let this remind us all to be mindful of our words and actions, especially on social media. Words have consequences.
We appeal to individuals and organizations who can support the family in settling the outstanding hospital bill and bringing their loved one home. Let us not look away.
May her soul rest in perfect peace, and may God give her family strength during this painful time. 🕊️💔
One week ago she was speaking. Today, we are speaking about her. Life is truly fragile.

🇸🇱💔 OUR CHILDREN MUST NOT PAY FOR ADMINISTRATIVE FAILURES
The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education has announced that 1,927 NPSE results remain unpublished, with 86% reportedly unavailable because some primary schools failed to submit the required CASS scores.
As a parent, a citizen and an advocate for children's rights, my heart is heavy.
How can a child who has sat an examination, worked hard and earned their marks be left waiting because of an administrative failure at their school?
These are children—some only 9, 10, 11 and 12 years old.
They should be celebrating their achievements and preparing for the next chapter of their education, not carrying the anxiety and uncertainty created by failures they had no control over.
The Ministry itself has acknowledged that these administrative failures can disadvantage pupils and has called the situation unacceptable.
Then let us ask the difficult question:
WHO WILL PROTECT THESE CHILDREN FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF ADULTS' FAILURES?
Yes, schools must be held accountable. But the child must not become the victim.
We call on the Ministry to ensure that every affected child receives their rightful result and that no child's transition to secondary education is compromised because of an administrative failure that was beyond their control.
🇸🇱 Our children deserve better. Their future cannot be put on hold because adults failed to do their jobs.
