Irish Parliamentary Delegation Visits LIFE Project Community in Pujehun District
This week, the LIFE consortium hosted a high-level Irish delegation in Macca Soro Village, Soro Gbema Chiefdom, Pujehun District, to showcase community-led progress in building climate resilience and improving nutrition outcomes for vulnerable households.
The visit brought together Restless Development, Welthungerhilfe Sierra Leone, Concern Worldwide, Safe Capital, and Doctors with Africa — partners in the Improving Food and Nutrition Outcomes of Vulnerable Households through Strengthening Climate Resilience, Fostering Financial Inclusion and Access to Clean Energy (LIFE) consortium.
The delegation included two Members of the Irish Parliament, the Irish Ambassador to Sierra Leone, the Head of Development at the Irish Embassy, and other senior Embassy officials.
As part of the tour of LIFE project facilities, the delegation met with adolescent girls supported by Restless Development through LIFE’s safe space and mentorship model.
Alfred Turay, Restless Development Programme Coordinator, briefed the delegation on the approach: trained mentors guide girls in safe, inclusive spaces where they openly discuss climate change, nutrition, and comprehensive sexuality education. The model builds confidence, knowledge, and life skills that empower girls to make informed decisions about their health, livelihoods, and futures.
The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to hear directly from participants about how the LIFE project is strengthening resilience at household and community level, while placing young people — especially girls — at the center of sustainable development.
