This morning, together with experienced child rights advocate Mr. Marvel Kamara, we successfully conducted interviews for various volunteer positions at Youth Panel Circle.

The interviews were held at the Plan Int'l Sierra Leone Youth Friendly Centre in Freetown.

We are building a team of devoted young people who are passionate and committed to advancing the rights of children and youth in Sierra Leone.

Special thanks to our Youth Coordinator, Mariam Samai from Plan International Sierra Leone, for providing the space, and special thanks to Ibrahim Marvel Kamara Kamara for joining me this morning to make this dream a reality.

Youth Panel Circle at Beckma Empowerment Initiative (BEMI), in partnership with the Ministry of Social Welfare Government of Sierra Leone and the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities NCPD, has commemorated the 2026 International Day of Sign Languages at the National School for the Deaf on Wilkinson Road, Freetown.

Held under the theme, “Our Hands, Our Voices, Our Rights: Sign Language for Inclusion and Empowerment,” the event brought together representatives of government institutions, civil society organisations, community leaders, development partners, school representatives and other stakeholders to celebrate the rights, achievements and potential of persons who are deaf and hearing-impaired.

The commemoration provided an important platform for raising awareness about disability rights, promoting the recognition and use of sign language, and advocating for greater access to education, skills development, employment opportunities and meaningful participation in community and national development.

Senior Executive Philipa Cride Dole and Kutubu had the privilege of facilitating Group 4 and roup 6 and it was truly inspiring to deliver Module 1: Self-Discovery, Goal Setting and Education.

We explored lessons on building trust, discovering self through magazine covers, and understanding peer pressure among adolescent girls.

Having been mentored under great leadership throughout our advocacy journey, it brings us so much joy to pass on the same legacy of mentorship to these girls ensuring that adolescent girls get equal rights and opportunities.

Our sincere thanks to the Grace Marcel Trust for believing in and supporting the Pan-African adolescent girls movement in Africa, hosted by 50/50 Group Sierra Leone.

As young people, we have every right to demand better opportunities, but responsibility matters too. Showing up, learning, asking questions, taking initiative, and making the most of what is available can be the difference.
