Sierra Leone is a very small West Africa country with a population of about five (5) million people . 75% of this population are illiterate and their main occupation is peasant farming . The eleven (11) years rebel war in this country has a severe effect on this farmers , this made most people to move into the city for shelter safety. Those who have been in Freetown for long where employed as cook
s , shopboys , gardeners , cleaners or watchmen , to either wealthy Sierra Leoneans or coloured Business men . Most of them were sacked from their jobs without benefit or pension after their long service with there various masters , this made most of them prefer to stay in the city then to go back up country . CONFA S/L Conducted a feasibility survey in the western urban area paticularly in the slums and hilly areas of the city in the early part of 2008 and the findings listed in this background motivated members of this organization to form or initiate this organization in Freetown as a concern. This organization is a non profit and non political oriented community base organization enhancing livelihood support and seek the well fear and well been of the Aged especially those living in extremely difficult situation. They are no more active for employment so they have no way rather go out everyday in the street of Freetown begging for their survival. This obviously led to high increase as of street beggers in the city . all this findings motivated CONFA S/L to take a look into the affairs of this category of persons. The inception of this agaed organization recognize two primary concerns , that deprive marginalize old person can easily take into the street to beg. The conception of this union is to provide stewardship in promotion and empowering the aged to remain independent interactive and healthy . in recognition of this fact the organization was found in December 2008 by concern Sierra Leoneans as a non profit and non political community base organization and it shall be called Concern for the Aged Sierra Leone .
