One Family People

One Family People OneFamilyPeople (OFP) is a non-political,independent,human rights’ non-profit making organization. Sport, music and drama play an important role in our work.

It supports the realization of rights, wellbeing and equalization of opportunities for all Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). One Family People: Breaking barriers for people with disabilities

One Family People is a local human rights organisation striving for a transformed continent where persons with disabilities- from children to adults, men and women - enjoy equal rights and thrive. Our mission

is to build resilience and break barriers through capacity building, advocacy, partnerships development and leveraging ressources. They are powerful tools in changing people’s mindset. In changing perceptions. Both for people with disability themselves and the society. We encourage and train people with disability to stand up and speak for themselves. As an organisation we believe we cannot break barriers alone. It needs the involvement of every development actor in the country. We work with a broad range of committed partners - local and international - to provide individual support up to international lobby and advocay. ‘Cos together we can.’

What happens when passionate leaders come together with one mission? Ideas spark, partnerships deepen, and transformation begins!

We recently concluded an inspiring and action-packed retreat with directors from our partner organizations, creating space for honest conversations, strategic thinking, and stronger collaboration around the Programme for Inclusion and Empowerment. The energy in the room was clear, we are not just implementing projects; we are building a movement for sustainable impact!

Key Highlights from the Retreat:

🔹 Strengthening Partnerships & Accountability – We explored ways to strengthen collaboration, clarify roles, and ensure every partner plays a stronger, more impactful role.

🔹 Reimagining Leadership & Engagement – Discussions focused on revitalizing the National Advisory Board, increasing ownership, and creating stronger connections between leadership, advisors, and program teams.

🔹 Celebrating Progress Across Districts – From youth empowerment and livelihood initiatives to healthcare, education support, accessibility projects, sports activities, and community engagement, our partners continue to create meaningful change where it matters most.

🔹 Investing in Growth & Sustainability – Conversations around capacity strengthening, financial accountability, resource mobilization, and organizational development reinforced our commitment to building stronger institutions for lasting impact.

What Comes Next?
The message from everyone was clear: more collaboration, more transparency, more field engagement, and more collective action. Together, we are committed to improving systems, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that communities remain at the center of everything we do.

As we move forward, we remain excited about what lies ahead because when organizations work together, communities thrive!

This is more than partnership.
This is more than programming.
This is collective impact in action.

George was more than a colleague, an ambassador, a beneficiary, or a team member; he was a shining light whose life spoke volumes about courage, determination, and hope. Though his journey on earth ended on Friday, 22nd May 2026, the impact he made will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew him.

Despite the challenges life placed before him, George never allowed his circumstances to define him. Instead, he rose above limitations with strength, grace, and an unshakable spirit. He carried himself with humility, kindness, and a deep passion for inclusion and empowerment. His smile brought comfort, his words inspired confidence, and his presence reminded us that true strength comes from within.

Through his involvement with OneFamilyPeople, the disability movement, and the Paralympic Association of Sierra Leone, George became a symbol of resilience and possibility. He showed countless persons living with disabilities that their dreams are valid, their voices matter, and their lives have purpose. He did not merely participate in the struggle for inclusion; he lived it, championed it, and inspired others to believe in a better tomorrow.

As a colleague and brother, George embodied teamwork, compassion, and dedication. He stood for unity, service, and humanity. His contributions to society, especially within the disability and sports communities in Sierra Leone, will forever remain part of a legacy that cannot be erased.

Today, we mourn with heavy hearts, yet we are also grateful to God for the gift of his life. Though he is gone physically, his vision, passion, and memories will continue to inspire us to work harder for a more inclusive and compassionate society.

To his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones, may you find strength in knowing that George lived a meaningful and impactful life. His footprints remain in the sands of time, and his story will continue to motivate generations to come.

Rest well, dear George.
Your race is complete, your fight is won, and your legacy lives on.

Capacity Building Training in Makeni: Strengthening Partnerships for Greater Impact

OneFamilyPeople (OFP), with the generous support of Liliane Fonds, is currently hosting a transformative two-day Capacity Building Training in Makeni from 20th – 22nd May 2026. The training focuses on strengthening partner capacity in Finance, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), and Programme Management to enhance effective implementation, reporting, accountability, and impact-driven programming.

Day 1 Highlights
The training commenced with a warm welcome from the OFP team, followed by setting ground rules and conducting a pre-test to assess participants’ understanding of key thematic areas including Programmes, M&E, and Finance. Partners actively engaged in discussions and interactive sessions, setting the stage for meaningful learning and collaboration.

Day 2 Highlights
Today’s sessions were rich, practical, and inspiring! Partners participated in organizational surveys and deepened their understanding of Monitoring & Evaluation through sessions facilitated by the OFP MEAL Advisor. Participants explored the PIE PMEL Training Manual (2025–2027), linking the Theory of Change to Results Frameworks, ITTs, indicators, and data collection tools. Important discussions also clarified various disability concepts and differentiated between the Individual Rehabilitation Plan (IRP) and Individual Development Plan (IDP).

In the afternoon, the Director of Operations led an engaging session on Programme Management, unpacking insights from partner surveys and clarifying the distinction between programme and project management. Partners also explored the CBR Circle, the operational framework of PIE, and approaches to CBR programme management and outcomes. To reinforce learning, participants collaboratively developed concept notes focused on Education, CBR, and Empowerment initiatives.

In Summary
The first two days of the training have been highly impactful, fostering stronger collaboration, enhanced knowledge, and renewed commitment among partners. We are confident that these capacity-building efforts will strengthen our collective ability to deliver sustainable and inclusive change in our communities.

Together, we continue building stronger partnerships for greater impact! 💙

Beauty. Power. Purpose.

The stage came alive as the Deaf Dancers a vibrant performing arts group under OneFamilyPeople Sierra Leone stepped out in breathtaking costumes that spoke louder than words ever could. Every color, every fabric, every movement told a story of resilience, identity, and unshakable confidence.

This is more than performance this is advocacy in motion.

As a proud sub-unit of the Walpoleans Music and Drama Group, these incredible dancers are not just entertaining; they are breaking barriers, shifting mindsets, and championing the rights and equal opportunities of Persons with Disabilities through the universal language of music and drama.

Their costumes are not just beautiful they are bold declarations:
✨ We are seen
✨ We are heard (beyond sound)
✨ We belong

This is what inclusion looks like. This is what empowerment feels like.

Voices Rising. Barriers Breaking. Change in Motion!

At the heart of the International Women’s Day 2026 celebrations in Sierra Leone, OneFamilyPeople took its rightful place on the frontlines of change!

Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Officer, Sallaymatu Laggah, proudly represented both OneFamilyPeople and the CSO community at a powerful Intergenerational Dialogue on the Changing Status of Women, hosted by the United Nations Gender Theme Group.

From humble beginnings to a voice of influence, Sallaymatu’s story lit up the room a bold reminder that background does not define destiny and disability does not limit purpose. Her message was clear and unshakable: what you do is who you are.

💬 She called for a shift in mindset, stronger advocacy, and education as the key to dismantling gender barriers and unlocking opportunities for all especially women, girls, and persons with disabilities.

Key Messages That Echo Loudly:

▪️ Women are powerful, resilient, and unstoppable
▪️ Advocacy for rights and protection must be relentless
▪️ Gender-specific needs must be recognized and addressed
▪️ No justice without accountability

Under the bold theme “Rights, Justice, Action. For All Women and Girls,” this wasn’t just a conversation, it was a call to action!

💪🏾 The movement continues. The voices are louder. And the future is undeniably inclusive. 🇸🇱

Empowering communities starts with empowering families 💙

As the Social Inclusion Advisor for OneFamilyPeople, I had the privilege of participating in a Parent Support Group meeting organized by the Disability Awareness Action Group, our CBR implementing partner under the Programme for Inclusion and Empowerment in the Western Rural District.

This engagement highlights our continued commitment to community ownership, by strengthening the capacity of parents and caregivers to effectively support their children with disabilities. Through peer support and shared experiences, we are building sustainable, context-relevant solutions that leave no one behind.

Together, we are creating stronger support systems at every level.

Empowering Youth. Amplifying Voices. Driving Inclusion.

A delegation from OneFamilyPeople, headed by our Empowerment Advisor, proudly participated in the Bombali District Youth Panel Training in Makeni, organized by the Polio Persons Development Association (POPDA) under the Programme for Inclusion and Empowerment (PIE), funded by Lilliane Fonds in the Netherlands.

This impactful engagement highlighted a truth we strongly believe in youth empowerment is at the heart of sustainable inclusion. Through interactive sessions on community-based rehabilitation, mental well-being, and inclusive healthcare, young people with disabilities were equipped with knowledge, confidence, and a platform to lead change in their communities.

At OneFamilyPeople, together with our partners, we remain committed to investing in young voices, breaking barriers, and building resilient communities where every young person regardless of ability has the opportunity to thrive and be heard. 💙

Breaking Barriers. Changing Lives. Leaving No One Behind.

OneFamilyPeople was honored to stand alongside the Sierra Leone Autistic Society (SLAS), with support from Liliane Fonds, at a powerful and action-driven engagement on Autism and Intellectual Disability Assistive Technology under the Programme for Inclusion and Empowerment (PIE).

This was more than an event, it was a movement. A bold step toward transforming the realities of children and youth with autism and intellectual disabilities.

Mental health and intellectual disability are not side issues they are at the heart of PIE. And through our strong and growing partnership with SLAS, we are reaching deeper into communities, touching more lives, and restoring hope to families who need it most.

Together, we are unlocking access to life-changing resources, promoting independence, improving developmental outcomes, and easing the burden of care for caregivers.

💙 Because true inclusion means everyone counts.
💙 Because empowerment means no one is invisible.
💙 Because at OneFamilyPeople, we are committed to ensuring NO ONE is left behind especially those living with mental illness and intellectual disabilities.
