A retreat is only as effective as its facilitator. Deep appreciation to Sharon Munyaka, a senior Industrial and Organisational Psychologist and systems-leadership facilitator with over 20 years of cross-sector experience, whose guidance shaped both the UNCT and RCO retreats last week in Freetown. Her impact was evident in the clarity, collaboration, and purpose achieved.

Following the UNCT’s 2.5-day retreat, the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Sierra Leone held its own session. RC Seraphine Wakana urged her expert team to co-create, deliver results, and remain fit for purpose. The Coordination Office supports common programming for Agenda 2030, joint programmes, and broader development coordination. 🌍

On Day 2 of our UNCT retreat, we were privileged to sit down for a fireside chat with Professor Joe A.D. Alie, one of Sierra Leone’s most respected historians and a leading voice on the country’s past and present. From what first drew him to Sierra Leone’s history, to the surprises that still emerge from it, Professor Alie offered reflections that were both profound and practical. His insights reminded us that history is not just about the past; it is a guide for how we build together today and tomorrow.

In a complex, financially constrained development landscape, the UN Country Team in Sierra Leone is holding a two-and-a-half-day retreat in Freetown today to reflect and recalibrate as we work together and deliver as one. UN Resident Coordinator Seraphine Wakana urged colleagues to strengthen partnerships and innovative financing, priorities in times of scarcity, and to move from coordination to true collaboration. She also called on the UN Country Team, comprising over 17 resident and non-resident agencies, funds and programmes, to improve the culture of accountability and learning.
