⚖️ A Law That Protects Our Children.

Sierra Leone has taken a bold and historic step in the protection of children with the enactment of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2024, issued by the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

At FANT Sierra Leone, we wholeheartedly welcome and support this landmark legislation. As an organisation working directly with young people and communities across Freetown, we know firsthand the devastating impact that child marriage has on the lives of girls — cutting short their education, their health, and their futures.

Childhood is not for marriage. It is for learning, growing, playing, and dreaming. Every girl deserves the right to be a child, and this Act is a critical step toward making that a protected reality for every child in Sierra Leone.

We call on all community members, parents, leaders, and young people to know this law, respect this law, and stand up for the children in your community.

Drug Prevention Project: FANT Sierra Leone & Caritas Freetown.

FANT Sierra Leone team recently held a productive meeting with the Programs team at CARITAS Sierra Leone, a significant step in strengthening our collaborative efforts around drug prevention and community development in Freetown.

The meeting provided an opportunity to introduce our ongoing 'Drug Prevention Project,' share our approach to youth-led community research and prevention across eight communities, and explore areas of shared learning and future partnership particularly around rehabilitation support and community outreach.

At FANT SL, we believe that tackling drug abuse among young people requires collective action. Meetings like this one remind us that when organisations come together with a shared purpose, real change becomes possible.

We look forward to continued dialogue and collaboration with the Caritas Sierra Leone team as we work toward healthier, safer communities for the youth of Sierra Leone.

Today, we proudly celebrate 65 years of freedom, resilience, and national pride.

As we honor the sacrifices of our forefathers, we also celebrate the strength, unity, and potential of our people.

At FANT Sierra Leone, we remain committed to using football as a tool for empowerment, inclusion, and building a brighter future for young people across our nation. Through sport, leadership, and community development, we continue to shape tomorrow’s leaders.

May this Independence Day inspire us all to work together for peace, progress, and opportunity for every Sierra Leonean.

The management and staff of FANT Sierra Leone had the singularly important task of bidding farewell to our Head of Secretariat, Cecilie Hauerberg . As they say, all good things must come to an end.

In 2012, Cecilie first visited Sierra Leone and has since developed a deep love for the country. She has consistently demonstrated remarkable passion and generosity in her role as Head of Secretariat with FANT-DK.

Through her direct involvement and guidance, FANT-SL has not only achieved success in the country but has remained relevant for over 13 years.

Together with our partner, FANT-DK, the organization has become a trusted and respected presence in communities positively impacting young boys and girls across 8 communities and 26 football clubs in Sierra Leone. Beyond transforming lives, the organization has created safe and nurturing environments where children can thrive—an achievement largely driven by the projects implemented under Cecilie's leadership.

As an organization, it has been a true privilege working with Cecilie. We fondly nicknamed her the “Iron Lady” because of her relentless drive to bring about meaningful change in our communities. Her leadership will stand the test of time, not only in Sierra Leone but far beyond.

We believe the best way to uphold Cecilie's legacy is to continue building on the positive foundation she has laid. We have learned, grown, implemented, and pioneered numerous projects alongside her, and we will forever be grateful to have had such an inspiring personality guiding our work one whose integrity stands above all.

Thank you, Cecilie, for an impactful and productive 12 years.

FINAL PROJECT EVALUATION

Cross-section of teams (key personnels) from FANT-Denmark, Youth Dream and FANT-SL had a very a intense brainstorming- final project evaluation by the climax of last year.

This session was particularly called to discussed the main achievements of the project's plan implemented right through 2025; it was a twofold that involved not just FANT-SL but Youth Dream Town, for us at FANT; the projects was: "Girl pekin 4 feel safe" which gave brith to the formation of the Child Protection Policy and The Child Protection Officers in our 8 fant catered communities in Sierra Leone.

As always, FANT-SL has continued to make remarkable strides in making sure our girls (girl child) is our top priority in our communities, our CPOs haven't just focus on building effective relationship in the communities, they have served a role models and a listening ears to the girls!

At FANT-SL, we're happy for the timely introduction of the Child Protection Officers by our partners FANT-Denmark and support of 'Nina' from YDC to have been part of this illustrious journey.
