MAFS and Partners Kick-Start Three-Day Mid-Year Review Workshop to Strengthen Project Implementation and Accelerate Feed Salone Delivery

Bo City, Sierra Leone — July 27, 2026

As part of efforts to accelerate the implementation of the Feed Salone initiative, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), together with its partners, has commenced a three-day mid-year review workshop to assess the implementation of the 2026 Annual Work Plans and Budgets of agricultural projects.

The workshop aims to provide government and development partners with an update on the progress of each project, identify implementation challenges, and agree on coordinated actions to improve performance and ensure the successful delivery of project objectives.

Currently underway at De Wizard Hotel in Bo City, the workshop has brought together project managers, technical experts, implementing partners, and senior ministry officials to review progress made during the first half of the year, identify implementation bottlenecks, and develop practical strategies to enhance project delivery during the remaining months of 2026.

Opening the workshop, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, said the event is intended to strengthen coordination among agricultural projects and maximise their collective impact in delivering the Feed Salone agenda. He noted that although each project has its own mandate and objectives, they all contribute to the shared national goal of transforming Sierra Leone's agricultural sector.

"We cannot achieve concrete results if we work in silos. We must collaborate, coordinate, and share experiences among ourselves. By working as one team, we can solve challenges more effectively and deliver greater impact for our farmers and the nation," said Dr. Kpaka.

Today, two projects; FSRP and LLDP presented their progress and feedback were provided to enhance project performance.

The exercise will continue in the following days.

MAFS through the Crop Protection Unit distributes Motorbikes and other items for Plant Health Surveillance across 15 Districts.

The Crop Protection Unit under the Crops Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) has distributed a number of items ranging from motorbikes, collapsing chairs, megaphones and umbrellas to crop officers across 15 districts of the country.

The objective of this distribution is to raise the much needed awareness on plant health, calling on farmers with affected farm products, then advising them accordingly on how to treat such whenever there happens to be future reoccurrence.

Mr. Alie H.D Mansaray - Head of Crop Protection Unit, underscored the relevance of plant health and noted that as a Unit, one of their activities is to revitalize the plant health clinic - which is a national plant health advisory system that has been dormant over the years.

Mr. Mansaray explained that the items would be distributed to crop officers in the district areas of Kailahun, Kenema, Bo, Bonthe, Moyamba, Kono, Bombali, Portloko, Kambia and the Western Area, amongst other agricultural districts - to ensure accountability in surveillance and pest management.

He enlightened that the plant health clinic is run on periodic markets or public spaces where farmers with affected farm products (with signs and symptoms of disease) are advised on solving such a problem for a viable plant health.

He disclosed that the items were made possible with funds from the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Finance - in the path to promoting the Feed Salone Agenda.

He encouraged other district crop officers who have not been fortunate to receive such items to continue to remain steadfast in their lines of duty with assurances that the Government of Sierra Leone through MAFS is dedicated to ensuring that such support reaches one and all - for farmers across Sierra Leone to benefit on what is needed for a viable and sustainable plant health.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) on Thursday 23 July 2026, celebrated the birthday of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, at the Ministry's Conference Hall in Youyi Building.

The event brought together directors, unit heads, project managers, staff, office assistants, and janitors in recognition of his leadership and dedication to transforming Sierra Leone's agriculture sector. The celebration featured the cutting of a birthday cake and presentation of gifts. In his remarks, Dr. Kpaka thanked staff for their prayers, love, and support, describing the Ministry as one family. He urged everyone to remain committed to delivering on President Julius Maada Bio's vision for agriculture

Speakers, including Permanent Secretary Mrs. Nancy Tengbeh, Director Yayah Mansaray, Director Sankoh, and FSRP Program Manager Dr. Kepifri Lakoh, commended Dr. Kpaka's leadership in advancing the Feed Salone agenda and strengthening the Ministry's national and international profile.
