From Hesitation to Hope: CHAMPS Empowers Communities to Fight Child Malnutrition Through Community-Led Nutrition

In Makama community, change is simmering in everyday kitchens. Through the CHAMPS Data-to-Action Food Demonstration Study in Bombali and Bo, mothers of under-five children are learning to prepare affordable, nutrient-rich meals using locally available ingredients. What began with hesitation is now transforming lives. “At first we were hesitant, but the local food condiments are helping our children grow fast,” one mother shared. By combining community-led nutrition education with strengthened frontline health systems, CHAMPS is tackling moderate acute malnutrition, one household at a time restoring hope, improving growth, and advancing child survival where it matters most.
