WCW | Celebrating Excellence in Media & Communication

We celebrate an incredibly amazing Executive member of our organization, MIWGEM’s very own Mabinty Samura a young, vibrant media and communications professional whose journey continues to inspire.

One of the longest serving members of MIWGEM, Mabinty has over the years served with unwavering focus, grit, and a standard of excellence that reflects the very heart of our vision. From her days at UNIMAK, where she studied Mass Communication, she has held MIWGEM close, moving passionately with its mission and core values.

Today, we proudly celebrate her as the Information, Education, and Communications Officer at Audit Service Sierra Leone a remarkable milestone in an already impactful career.

Congratulations, Mabinty. We are truly proud of you and all that you continue to represent ✨

Few months ago, the Media Initiative for Women & Girls Empowerment (MIWGEM) successfully organized its annual Media Symposium and Skills Training, engaging over 30 young and aspiring media professionals.

As part of our core mandate, MIWGEM is committed to securing internship opportunities that allow young media practitioners to grow, learn, and expand their professional skills. We are grateful to one of our key development partners, Ronald Sesay, who provided internship placements for four outstanding participants to further develop their media and communication expertise.

We are incredibly proud of the progress we continue to witness. One such success story is Alfreda Koroma, who now presents SCAN 360 News with confidence, clarity, and eloquence—an inspiring example of growth in action.

This is impact. This is growth.
This is MIWGEM empowering women and girls through media.

The Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG) recently held a meeting with selected media organizations and rights activists to discuss issues relating to women’s digital rights and media freedom.

The Media Initiative for Women and Girls Empowerment (MIWGEM) participated in this engagement, as promoting equality in Sierra Leone’s media landscape is a core part of our mandate. We are also committed to building the capacity of young media professionals, with a strong focus on 21st-century media skills and techniques.

We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to MRCG and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for organizing such an impactful initiative, and we look forward to positive outcomes and continued collaboration going forward.

Media Initiative for Women and Girls Empowerment (MIWGEM) regrets to announce the tragic passing of Nancy Turay, a young, vibrant and passionate changemaker who recently participated in our two-day media symposium, where she gave her very best and left a lasting impression on us all.

Nancy was a third-year student in the Mass Communications Department at Fourah Bay College, known for her dedication, brilliance and commitment to personal and community growth.

This is a profoundly sad moment for the entire MIWGEM family. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues and loved ones during this difficult time.

A week ago, our Founder and Coordinator, Adama Bai Conteh Esq, participated in the Empower Her+ Leadership and Wellness Summit, where she shared meaningful insights on media and reproductive health rights with over 30 young women.

During her panel discussion, she explored how online platforms are shaping current conversations about women’s bodies, and how young women can access accurate, reliable information in an increasingly digital world.

Drawing from the mandate of the Empower Her Foundation, she also highlighted key grassroots solutions that continue to empower women particularly in the areas of fertility and menstruation.

As a media empowerment organization, we extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the organizers for convening such a transformative gathering of young women. Special appreciation goes to the founder of Empower Her+, Miss Janet Zizer, for creating a truly life-changing experience for all participants.

In a world where true leadership is defined by vision, impact, and commitment, I have made it my mission to lead not just as a visionary female leader, but as a passionate advocate for empowering young women in leadership and media. My unshakable quest to transform lives and open doors of opportunity remains at the heart of everything I do.

With an unwavering belief in the potential of young women, I have worked tirelessly to nurture their talents, guide their ambitions, and build their confidence to step into leadership roles. Through 21st-century media skills and techniques, I continue to inspire them to tell their stories, shape narratives, and empower themselves through the power of media.

Through MIWGEM, I have created mentorship programs and fostered active engagement in media development. This platform has become a powerful voice amplifier helping young women tell their stories with authenticity and strength. It ensures that the next generation of female media professionals and leaders are well-equipped, informed, and inspired to lead with excellence and integrity.

Many young women have discovered their strengths, sharpened their skills, and embraced leadership with courage and vision through this initiative.

This is more than a mission, it is a vision of empowerment, transformation, and hope. A true testament to what happens when passion meets purpose.

To everyone who has supported this dream over the years, I say thank you!

This is for God and for country🇸🇱
