Empower 200 Initiative Orientation Day Highlights

The Empower 200 Initiative commenced on a strong and inspiring note, with over 100 women participating in the Day 1 orientation. The session was marked by enthusiasm, optimism, and a shared commitment to personal and economic empowerment.

Participants were introduced to the core skills development programs that will be delivered throughout the initiative, including:

• Pastry Production
• Tailoring
• Decoration & Event Styling
• Hair Dressing
• Digital Literacy
• Gara Tie-Dyeing
• Cosmetics & Beauty Production

The WiMi Country Coordinator, Dr. Lauretta Will Sillah, delivered a motivating keynote, emphasizing the importance of resilience, self-confidence, and collective progress in advancing women’s empowerment.

The day concluded with formal participant registration into their selected training areas, signifying the beginning of a transformative journey toward sustainable livelihoods and inclusive growth.

This initiative represents more than skills training; it is a platform for empowerment, opportunity, and community advancement.

During this year’s International Women’s Week, People’s Foundation for Humanity Development (PeFoHD), in partnership with UN Women and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, successfully hosted a one-day women’s empowerment workshop in Freetown.
This impactful program, proudly sponsored by JICA, brought together 123 women, mostly from our WIMI Cell groups, for a day of learning, engagement, and inspiration.
What we focused on:

Sensitization on the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act

Promoting Women in Governance & Leadership

Strengthening women’s voices in national development.

The workshop was highly interactive and impactful, with women actively participating, sharing experiences, and building confidence to take on leadership roles in their communities.
We also recognize and appreciate the Ministry of Gender, who led the main training and sensitization sessions, making a significant contribution to the success of the workshop.
We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve and uplift women across our communities.

International Women’s Day
Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of dynamic women across the world. As an NGO committed to creating meaningful impact in the lives of those we consider vulnerable, we took this year’s celebration beyond the city and into the provinces, engaging directly with women in rural communities.

Through interactive discussions, we shared important knowledge on local governance, women’s rights, and empowerment, helping women better understand their role and voice in community development.
With the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and UN Women, this year’s celebration has brought renewed hope and a new sense of empowerment to the lives of many women.

Together, we continue to stand for equality, opportunity, and a stronger future for women everywhere.
