The most religious tolerance School in Sierra Leone 💚🤍🦁
Prince of Wales School Kingtom
A Beacon of Religious Tolerance in Sierra Leone💚🤍🦁
As we commemorate a remarkable century of the Prince of Wales School (POW), we celebrate not just its academic prowess but also its profound commitment to religious tolerance and character building.
Growing up in a humble Islamic background, I always aspired to attend POW, drawn not only by its academic excellence and discipline but also by its inclusive environment. The school has played a pivotal role in nurturing our identities, allowing us to embrace our Islamic obligations while fostering mutual respect among all faiths.
During my time at POW, I experienced firsthand the beauty of religious coexistence. Our daily routines included Zuhr prayers during devotion time, while our Christian classmates engaged in their own worship. This harmonious coexistence was not just a practice but a lesson in respect, understanding, and community.
As I matured, my commitment to my faith led me to become the President of the Prince of Wales Muslim Jamaat and later, the President of the Sierra Leone Union of Muslim Students in Secondary Schools. My roles as a class and school prefect provided me with opportunities to network with fellow alumni, many of whom shared similar backgrounds and aspirations (Alhaji Alpha O. Tejan Jalloh, Alhaji BabaTundeh Kareem and many more).
Together, we initiated projects that had a lasting impact. We constructed a Mimbar, organized Dawah field trips, and established Muslim Jamaats in various schools. One of our proudest achievements was the “Distribution of Prayer Materials” project, through which we provided mats, kettles, megaphones, hijabs, and other essential materials to over 50 schools across the country supported back then by Mr Sesay of Office World, TEDA and the Voice of Islam.
The Prince of Wales School has significantly shaped our personalities and leadership skills, instilling values that resonate beyond the classroom. It has taught us the importance of community service, respect for diversity, and the strength found in unity.
As we reflect on the past 100 years, I pray for the continued blessings of the Almighty upon our school. May POW continue to be a place of learning, growth, and religious harmony, contributing to a brighter future for Sierra Leone.
God Bless Prince of Wales
God Bless Sierra Leone
