Beckma Empowerment Initiative -Bemi in partnership with Women Environmental Programme Sierra Leone has taken menstrual hygiene support to under educated girls and women at Deep Eye Water community in Freetown.

The event coincided with the end of the menstrual hygiene month, highlighting the importance of reproductive hygiene and care for all including those in hard-to-reach communities.

Reusable pads with waterproof layers were shared so they can be used comfortably without irritations.

A session about the stigma stemming from the misconceptions of menstruation was also held.

ONE UNDER EDUCATED GIRL, ONE PAD CAMPAIGN

Theme: “No Girl Left Behind in Menstrual Hygiene”

On 30th May, the Beckma Empowerment Initiative (BEI) successfully concluded Menstrual Hygiene Month by distributing reusable sanitary pads and hygiene materials through the One Under Educated Girl, One Pad Campaign in Deep Eye Water Community. The initiative reached vulnerable and undereducated girls with menstrual hygiene support and education.

As an organization, we believe that menstrual health is a fundamental right, and no girl should be denied dignity, confidence, or opportunities because of a lack of access to menstrual hygiene products and information.

Through this initiative, we distributed reusable sanitary pads and essential hygiene materials while conducting interactive sessions on menstrual hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, and mental health awareness. Participants learned about proper menstrual health management, personal hygiene practices, reproductive health, emotional well-being, and the importance of breaking myths and stigma surrounding menstruation.

Beyond the distribution of materials, we encouraged the girls to remain confident, prioritize their education, and understand that menstruation should never be a barrier to achieving their dreams.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our partners and supporters:

Together, we are building communities where every girl can manage her menstrual health with dignity, confidence, and pride.

As we step into this new month, we extend warm greetings to our partners, supporters, and the wider community. This month presents a renewed opportunity to strengthen our commitment to environmental sustainability, youth engagement, and collective action toward a greener and more resilient future.

At BEMI, we remain firmly dedicated to advancing awareness on climate change and empowering communities to take meaningful and practical steps in protecting our natural environment. We are proud of our continued collaboration with partners such as Fridays For Future - Sierra Leone and other like-minded organizations in promoting climate action and environmental education among young people.

This month, we are guided by a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility:

“Climate change affects us all. This month, let us work together to strengthen climate policies, protect our natural resources, and build resilient communities.”

Together, we call on everyone to choose action over apathy and hope over harm. Let us continue to make “Mama Salone Green” not just a slogan, but a lived reality.

One Under Educated Girl, One Pad Campaign

No Girl Left Behind in Menstrual Hygiene

Today, the Beckma Empowerment Initiative proudly implements its “One Under Educated Girl, One Pad” Campaign at Deep Eye Water, a community-centered initiative dedicated to promoting menstrual hygiene, dignity, and empowerment for undereducated and vulnerable girls.

Menstruation should never be a barrier to confidence, education, health, or opportunity. However, many girls continue to face challenges in accessing sanitary products and accurate menstrual health information. Through this campaign, we are working to address these challenges by providing sanitary pads, menstrual hygiene education, and essential support to girls who need it most.

Our mission is to support undereducated girls with menstrual pads, knowledge, and confidence, helping them manage their periods safely and with dignity while building a brighter future. By increasing access to menstrual hygiene products and education, we are empowering girls to stay healthy, informed, and confident in their everyday lives.

As part of today’s outreach, volunteers and partners will engage participants in interactive menstrual hygiene awareness sessions and distribute sanitary pads to help promote safe and healthy menstrual practices. We believe that menstrual health is a basic right, not a privilege, and every girl deserves access to the resources she needs to thrive.

This initiative is more than a pad distribution exercise; it is a commitment to inclusion, dignity, gender equality, and social justice. Every girl deserves the confidence to manage her menstrual health without stigma, shame, or discrimination.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our partners, Shecures Sanitary Products, Women Environmental Programme Sierra Leone, and Inclusive Gender Network, whose support has made this initiative possible.

Together, we can break the silence surrounding menstruation, build confidence among girls, and ensure that no girl is left behind in menstrual hygiene.

Menstrual Hygiene Day is not just a day of awareness, it is a call to action.

Undereducated girls deserve equal access to proper menstrual hygiene education, sanitary products, and safe support systems. Many of these girls remain highly vulnerable in their communities due to poverty, lack of information, stigma, and limited opportunities. No girl should suffer in silence or be denied dignity because of menstruation.

As we continue to say “Leave No One Behind,” those words must be backed by real action. Inclusion should not only be spoken about in conferences and campaigns; it must be practiced in our schools, communities, and policies. Every girl, regardless of her educational background or social status, deserves the right to manage her period safely, confidently, and with dignity.

Now is the time for governments, organizations, communities, and individuals to step forward and invest in menstrual hygiene education and support for vulnerable girls. Together, we can build a society where no girl is forgotten, excluded, or ashamed because of her period.

A starts with action, inclusion, and equal access for all.

At Beckma Empowerment Initiative (BEMI), we are not only advocating for climate action, but also taking practical steps toward reducing waste and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment.

Through Youth Climate Innovation, young people are being empowered to take frontline action in addressing environmental challenges while also creating livelihood opportunities for themselves. The innovative craft of turning plastic waste into sustainable solutions such as bricks is a powerful example of how creativity and environmental responsibility can work together to build a better future.

Working with Break the silence SL continues to show us that when young organizations with a shared vision for sustainability come together, meaningful impact can be achieved. Partnerships like these strengthen community action, promote environmental awareness, and inspire young people to become agents of change.

Together, we can reduce waste, protect our environment, and create sustainable opportunities for future generations.
