SLBC TV News on the commemoration of World No To***co Day in Sierra Leone, with support from Amref Health Africa and Y-ACT Youth In Action

06/06/2025

On World No To***co Day, WHO urges everyone to stand up against to***co industry tactics targeting youth.

Protect health, protect future and say no to to***co and yes to stronger control policies.

Your voice matters.

On World No To***co Day, GYNED and Y-ACT proudly stood with WHO and Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health to expose the truth behind to***co and ni****ne use.

Together, we unveiled the industry’s deceptive tactics, especially how it targets our youth and amplified our call for stronger to***co control policies.

We also spotlighted our ongoing advocacy efforts, shared progress from our current projects, and celebrated the power of partnership in creating a smoke-free Sierra Leone.

The fight continues, and we’re all in for a smoke free future.

To***co kills over 8 million people yearly, yet it’s preventable. Let’s protect our youth, our lungs, and our future.

Say NO to to***co, support smoke-free spaces, and push for stronger policies.

Every voice counts in the fight against this deadly addiction.

Today, on World No To***co Day, we stand united with young people across Sierra Leone and around the globe to demand stronger action against the manipulative tactics of the to***co industry.

With all the gains made and milestones achieved on the Sierra Leone Youth-Led To***co Control Project funded by Amref Health Africa and Y-ACT Youth In Action, we believe that our generation deserves a future free from addiction, disease, and exploitation.

To***co kills over 8 million people each year, and the industry continues to target young people with deceitful flavored products, social media marketing, and deceptive messaging.

We say NO MORE. Therefore, we call on the Government of Sierra Leone to fully implement and enforce the WHO Framework Convention on To***co Control (FCTC), and the Sierra Leone To***co & Ni****ne Control Act 2022.

We also take the opportunity to urge policymakers to ban to***co advertising, promotion, and sponsorship in all forms.

We advocate for to***co-free schools, public spaces, and strong health warnings on all to***co products.

Young voices are powerful. Our health, our future, our fight and NOW.

We do wholeheartedly appreciate all our partners and participants for making thie orientation and kickoff a resounding success.

The journey to a to***co-free generation starts now with all of us
