As part of efforts to achieve the goal of the Women and Youth Leading Climate Justice Project, supported by Trocaire, Youth Partnership for Peace and Development (YPPD), together with its partners, convened a District Multi-Stakeholder Policy Roundtable on Climate Adaptation Planning in Kambia District on Friday, 31st July, 2026.

The engagement brought together district stakeholders, policymakers, local authorities, civil society actors, and community representatives to strengthen collaboration on climate action. A key focus of the dialogue was the integration of Community Climate Adaptation Plans (CAPs) into the District Development Plan, ensuring that community-driven climate priorities inform local planning and decision-making.

The stage was set as stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing inclusive, locally led climate adaptation. Through meaningful dialogue, renewed partnerships, and concrete commitments, a clear roadmap was established to strengthen climate resilience and accelerate the achievement of the projectโ€™s objectives.

Over the past few days, Youth Partnership for Peace and Development returned to five communities in Western Area Rural District: Macdonald, Fogbo, Lakkah, Bureh and Koya carrying something unusual: their own scorecard.

Not our assessment of them. Their assessment of everyone else.

The findings were uncomfortable in a useful way. Legal awareness has risen sharply since baseline. But enforcement, duty-bearer responsiveness and corporate accountability remain the weakest domains across all five communities.

So the sessions didnโ€™t stop at presenting findings. In each community, participants validated or revised the scores against their own experience, adopted an action plan naming who does what by when, received a complaint logbook, and formalised the community structure with women and youth named, not assumed.

Ward councillors and chiefdom authorities sat in the same rooms and recorded their first commitments on the record.

In honour of an invitation from UNFPA Sierra Leone, our Community Education and Training Officer Saidu Moneyman Bangura participated in the Mano River Union (MRU) Youth Connekt Summit at the Bintumani Conference centre in Freetown from the 18th-20th June, 2026.

The event which was spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sierra Leone and largely funded by UNDP in Sierra Leone, brought together young people from countries in the MRU region; Liberia, Guinea, Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone being the host featuring the majority of participants.

Saidu helped facilitated breakout sessions on Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) and Sexual, and Reproductive Health and Rights (SEHR) from the masterclass in Governance, Peace and Security led by UNFPA.

Last week, as a partner, Youth Partnership for Peace and Development joined the She-Empowerment League for Feminist Forge 2.0 in a panel discussion featuring Theresa Grace Masuba and a goodwill message delivered by Bintu Yie Octobean Aruna. The engagement brought together over 250 participants from across Sierra Leone and beyond.

YPPDโ€™s support for the event reflects the organisationโ€™s continued commitment to advancing womenโ€™s empowerment.

For the past three days, our Community Education and Training Officer Saidu Moneyman Bangura was in Lomรฉ, Togo for the ECOWAS Human Capital Development Programme - Youth A I Forum. This strategic initiative, organized by the Office of the Vice President of the Ecowas - Cedeao, marks the closing activities of the ECOWAS 50th Anniversary celebrations. Under the theme "Equipping West African Youths to Become Globally Competitive," the forum brought together students, graduates, and entrepreneurs to bridge the digital divide and address regional unemployment through the power of Artificial Intelligence.

The training focused on empowering young leaders to integrate AI into their business plans and daily operations, transforming them from mere consumers of technology into innovative creators. Our officer engaged in deep dives regarding how AI-driven systems can scale ventures and reduce costs, alongside exploring local solutions for critical sectors like precision farming in agriculture, peacebuilding, healthcare, and personalized learning in education.

The rationale behind this gathering was clear: in a rapidly evolving labor market, AI literacy is no longer optional, it is a strategic priority for building a resilient and competitive West African workforce. Discussions emphasized the importance of ethical AI applications and the development of a West African Youth Digital Skills Network to sustain this momentum.

As Sierra Leone marks 65 years of independence, Youth Partnership for Peace and Development (YPPD) joins the nation in celebrating our resilience, progress, and shared aspirations for a brighter future.

With young people making up a significant majority of our population, they remain the backbone of our nationโ€™s present and the drivers of its future. Yet, this immense potential continues to face serious challenges. Too many young people are still confronted with unemployment, limited opportunities, and persistent povertyโ€”conditions that hinder their ability to fully contribute to national development.

YPPD calls on the Government of Sierra Leone and development partners to prioritize meaningful and sustained investment in youth empowerment. This includes expanding access to quality education, skills development, entrepreneurship opportunities, and decent jobs. Young people must be actively included in decision-making processes and supported as agents of peace, innovation, and sustainable development.

As part of our continued efforts to advance the Women and Youth Leading Climate Justice Project, with support from Trocaire and in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, Youth Partnership for Peace and Development (YPPD) successfully conducted a three-day refresher training in Kambia District.

The training took place across three communitiesโ€”Matham, Koya 2, and Kassasie in Magbema Chiefdomโ€”bringing together young women, youth, and youth farmers committed to promoting climate resilience, adaptation and sustainable practices.

Over the course of the three days, participants enhanced both their knowledge and practical skills in agroecological techniques and sustainable forest management practices, empowering them to drive positive environmental change within their communities.

As part of the GIZ-supported Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) consultations implemented by Interpeace and Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding, Youth Partnership for Peace and Development (YPPD) joined other youth-led organizations and coalitions across seven participating countries to take stock of a decade since the adoption of UNSCR 2250 and to identify concrete priorities for advancing the YPS agenda.

The consultation came at a critical moment, as Sierra Leone has already developed a roadmap toward the formulation of a Youth, Peace and Security National Action Plan (YPS-NAP). This process is being led and supported by GIZ, UNDP in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Youth Affairs Sierra Leone, and other relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Saidu Ibrahim Bangura and Tejan Kellah, who by extension represented the Sierra Leone YPS coalition, presented key findings from the national consultation held in January 2026. The consultation convened over 120 participants, including youth advocates, youth group leaders, and key stakeholders from all 16 districts of the country, ensuring broad national representation and inclusivity.

The two-days validation workshop held in Nairobi marked a significant milestone, bringing together consultation partners to validate emerging findings, strengthen horizontal peer learning, and co-create youth-led recommendations. These recommendations are intended to support national advocacy efforts and inform global YPS discourse, including contributions to the Second Independent Progress Study.

Importantly, the workshop also serves as a bridge between the consultation phase and the next stage of the initiative, helping to sustain momentum and ensure that the knowledge, partnerships, and outcomes generated are effectively carried forward.
