HERE IS WHY WE SHOULD PLANT AND PROTECT TREES.

1. Air Purification– Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, while filtering harmful pollutants like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides from the air.

2. Climate Regulation – Trees provide shade, reduce temperatures, and help balance the climate by storing carbon and releasing moisture into the atmosphere.

3. Soil Protection – Tree roots bind the soil, preventing erosion, improving water retention, and maintaining soil fertility.

4. Water Conservation– Trees slow down rainwater runoff, reduce flooding, and help recharge groundwater supplies.

5. Biodiversity Support – Trees provide habitats and food for numerous animal and plant species, supporting ecosystems and preserving biodiversity.

📚🌍 Schools are not just classrooms. They are climate grounds.

Because every child who learns about the climate crisis today becomes an adult who acts tomorrow.
But we don’t need to wait for tomorrow.

Here are 4 ways schools can fight climate change today:
1️⃣ Teach climate solutions beyond the textbook.

2️⃣ Green their school grounds with trees and gardens.

3️⃣ Model responsibility by cutting energy waste.

4️⃣ Empower student eco-clubs to lead.

Climate change isn’t a theory, it’s a survival.

If schools take the lead, students won’t just graduate with certificates.

They’ll graduate with responsibility.🌱

👉 Which of these can your school or community start with?

To serve as a one-stop data hub for all information pertaining to the environment, we held a formative workshop on the launch of the Centre for Environmental Data and Statistics (CEDAS) in May this year.

We came together to identify the gaps in data collection and access and to provide practical solutions with participants drawn from pertinent ministries, departments and agencies, research institutes, academia, private consultancy firms, and development organisations.

A report titled "Building Sierra Leone's Environmental Future: Formative Workshop Report on Launching the Centre for Environmental Data and Statistics" compiles such contributions.

As we expand on the synergies to tackle the most urgent issues, kindly click on the link to read and let us know what you think.

With resilience, hope and determination; happy independence day Sierra Leone. Sixty four(64) years as a sovereign state. The challenges are visible, the youths and women deserves more robust climate action. Let us be determined about our future. It should be now, not tomorrow.

EARTH DAY 2025

THEME:
Our Power, Our Planet

For 55 years, Earth Day has led the world in educating and mobilizing the public to take action to address critically important environmental issues. As an organization, we are global advocates for the health of the planet, calling for the protection of our air, oceans, soil, ecosystems, wildlife, and human health

April 22nd, 2025 will mark the 55th anniversary of Earth Day. 192 countries and over one billion people around the globe are expected to participate, demonstrating the longstanding convening power of Earth Day to bring people from all walks of life to work together for a better future.

As we approach this milestone, YACC celebrate a transformative reality: the solutions we need to create clean, inexpensive, and unlimited energy for the entire planet through renewable solar, wind and other technologies are within our reach.

Clean water is a right, not a privilege. Yet, billions around the world still lack access to safe drinking water and sanitation —and the climate emergency is making things worse.

We can all be part of the solution. Simple steps in our daily lives can make a huge difference: 🚿 Take shorter showers 💦 Avoid over-watering plants 🥘 Reduce food waste. Let’s commit to protecting this valuable resource!
