The West African Youth Network (WAYN) in collaboration with its LEAP Consortium Partners โ WANEP and Prison Watch, with support from DIGNITY, successfully held a two-day Question Development Workshop titled โ101 Things You Wanted To Know About The Police But Were Too Afraid To Ask.โ
The event brought together key stakeholders from Ministries, Security Institutions, Civil Society Organizations, Community Leaders, and Youth Groups to discuss and develop relevant questions that will form the foundation of an upcoming citizen-friendly booklet aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Sierra Leone Police and the public.
The workshop featured insightful presentations, group discussions, and plenary sessions, focusing on six thematic areas:
1๏ธโฃ Introduction to the Sierra Leone Police
2๏ธโฃ Rights and Duties of Police and Citizens
3๏ธโฃ Arrest and Detention
4๏ธโฃ Reporting Crimes
5๏ธโฃ Police Accountability
6๏ธโฃ Criminal Justice
Participants also engaged in an interactive Word Cafรฉ Session, sharing ideas, evaluating draft questions, and proposing next steps toward producing the final โ101 Thingsโ publication.
The overall objective of this initiative is to enhance mutual understanding, accountability, and collaboration between the police and communities โ ultimately contributing to violence prevention and peacebuilding in Sierra Leone.
๐ฌ โThis process is not just about questions; itโs about creating a bridge of trust and transparency between citizens and those who protect them.
