🇸🇱✊🏾Together with 50 feminist movement partners across Sierra Leone, we call on our Parliament, in the strongest terms, to pass the Child Rights Act, 2024 & to safeguard the freedom of all children.
Protecting children is not up for debate.
No other position is possible!

📢 We refuse to remain silent in the face of any action that will undermine the safety of our children.

We have outlawed child marriage, we have forged the path for radical inclusion in school. Let us now fully protect the safety, dignity and rights of all children in Sierra Leone.

In honor of this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, the Transformative Women’s Initiative BO embarked on a special school and orphanage tour, reaching out to primary and junior secondary schools, as well as orphanage homes, to uplift and empower young girls.
During our visits, we distributed essential items, including combs, nail cutters, pens, erasers, pencils, notebooks, cup among others , all packed in gift bags. We also provided clothing to the adolescent girls in the orphanages to ensure they feel supported, cared for, and valued.
Beyond the distribution, we engaged the girls in meaningful discussions about:
• This year's theme for International Day of the Girl Child
• Their rights and responsibilities as young women
• Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV): raising awareness and providing guidance on how to protect themselves and seek help
• Reproductive health: equipping them with knowledge to make informed decisions
• The importance of education as a key to unlocking future opportunities
• Skill development: encouraging them to pursue their talents and interests as a foundation for self-reliance and empowerment
This initiative aimed to inspire, educate, and empower girls to realize their full potential, while reminding them of their inherent strength and value. Together, we can create a future where every girl is respected, educated, and free from violence and discrimination.
