Sierra Leone like any other developing country is faced with a number of challenges. Some of these challenges are the high rate of illiterate and unskilled people, health and sanitation problems, high teenage pregnancy and child marriage, gender and sexual-based violence and other socio-economic and environmental problems. There is therefore the need to complement the untiring effort of government

and other internal and external organizations and individuals not only determined but equally committed and desperate to see
Socio-economic, politico-cultural and environmental progress of our beloved Sierra Leone. Whereas tremendous efforts have been made in recent times to equally empower rural communities, there is also the need for more commitment to promote the livelihood and living conditions of the rural poor. Better still, it is the view that to move away from the vicious cycle of poverty, there is need to help promote better education for all particularly, focusing on middle man power and entrepreneurial skills that will eventually promote community empowerment and development.

Tonight, Mabanta Village in Safroko Limba is shining with solar light.

What started as a simple agriculture project to support education and community development has now transformed lives across more than 8 rural communities in Sierra Leone. Through the work of CARDO Sierra Leone, we have been able to provide:

Solar street lights
Solar-powered community spaces
Tap water support
Seed loans for farmers
Educational support for children and families

For many families in Mabanta, this is the first time their community has experienced reliable light at night. Children can now study in the evening, women and elderly people can move around safely, and the community can gather without darkness taking over.

These moments remind us why we started.

But there are still many villages waiting.

You can help us bring light to another rural community by donating a solar street light or supporting our rural electrification and agriculture programs. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps change lives.

Sponsor a solar light
Support clean water access
Help children continue education
Empower local farmers

A brighter future for Mankoreh Village

As part of our ongoing effort to expand access to clean energy and improve rural livelihoods, CARDO Sierra Leone has successfully powered Mankoreh Village with solar lighting.

This initiative is part of our Agriculture and Community Development Project supporting 10 communities. Our approach goes beyond just electricity. We are working to strengthen communities through:

• Solar electricity for homes and public spaces
• Free scholarships for children
• Seed grants to support local farmers
• Agricultural development programs

So far, CARDO Sierra Leone has already connected 6 communities in Saforoko Chiefdom and Mapaki Masabong Chiefdom with solar electricity while supporting farmers and students.

Access to clean energy means safer nights, better learning conditions for students, and stronger economic opportunities for rural families.

We remain committed to expanding these efforts to more communities across Sierra Leone.

A beautiful day with our people.

Yesterday we held the CARDO Sierra Leone Annual Outing & Dance with the communities working with us on our agriculture project. This year, Kagbanka Bana Mapaki Chiefdom graciously hosted us, and the energy was incredible.

From laughter and dancing to shared meals and conversations, it was a reminder that this work is not just about farming. It is about people, unity, and growing together. Seeing farmers, youths, women, and children come together like this makes all the hard work worth it.

Thank you to the Kagbanka Bana community for the warm welcome, and to every community member who continues to believe in this journey. We move forward together.

This cassava is from our agriculture project we planted last year, and today we’re harvesting the results of patience, teamwork, and hard work. Seeing healthy roots like these reminds me why we believe so much in agriculture as a tool for growth and community impact.

This is more than food. It’s income for families, learning through practice, and a step toward food security. Grateful to everyone who put in the effort from planting to harvest. The journey continues.

We’ve started picking from our pepper farm, and the harvest is looking great. Seeing the buckets fill up like this reminds me why patience and hard work in agriculture always pay off.

From the nursery stage to this moment, it’s been a long journey, but we thank God for a good yield. More harvests ahead.

Last night felt historic. For the first time, Katherie Village lit up under solar power—bright, safe, and full of life. This milestone came through our agriculture project, proving once again that farming can fuel real community transformation.

So far, we’ve brought solar electricity to more than six villages. And we aren’t stopping there.

Our work goes beyond farming. We use agriculture to make education free for children and to support community needs like tap water, seed loans for farmers, and reliable solar power for families who’ve lived without light for generations.

Seeing Katherie glowing in the dark reminded us why this mission matters. Every village we power is a step toward a stronger, more hopeful future for our people.

Together, we’re building something bigger than a project—we’re building change.

CARDO Sierra Leone has officially signed a partnership with the Sierra Leone Correctional Service. This collaboration is designed to support the reintegration and rehabilitation of inmates by involving them in meaningful work and skill-building initiatives.

Through this partnership, inmates will take part in agriculture projects and receive training in solar installations and ICT. The aim is to help them gain practical experience and develop skills that can support their transition back into society.

We appreciate the leadership of the Correctional Service for welcoming this partnership. Together, we are creating real opportunities for growth, responsibility, and a stronger future for those ready to rebuild their lives.

Today our communities came together again as we continue flagging our rice. It’s always inspiring to see everyone working side by side—men, women, and even the young ones—putting their energy into a harvest that benefits us all.

This is more than farming. It’s unity, teamwork, and pride in the work we do to support each other. Step by step, we’re building stronger and more productive villages.

Grateful to everyone who showed up and played a part. Our rice season is looking promising.

Earlier this morning we continued our scholarship payments for more than 100 pupils in Kagbanka, Mapaki Chiefdom. This support is part of our commitment to help the communities working with us on our agricultural project and to keep investing in their children’s education.

We’re also happy to announce that Kagbanka has been selected to host our annual outing and dance this year. The event will take place on December 17, 2025, and we’re looking forward to celebrating together with everyone.

Thank you to the community for the warm welcome and the strong partnership. The work continues.
