Inter-Generational Dialogue Session
Facilitated by the Sierra Leone Social Marketing and Development Agency (SLaDA)

The Inter-Generational Dialogue Session was a targeted intervention aimed at fostering inclusive and impactful discussions among diverse age groups. This initiative sought to address critical topics, including:
- Assertiveness: Building confidence and effective communication skills.
- Life Journey/Path: Reflecting on individual growth, challenges, and achievements.
- Cultural and Traditional Activities: Exploring generational perspectives on traditions and practices.
- Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE): Promoting awareness and informed decision-making.

SLaDA successfully implemented the program across four communities in Moyamba and Port Loko districts. Each community session involved 32 participants, evenly distributed among:
- Older men: 8 participants
- Older women: 8 participants
- Younger men: 8 participants
- Younger women: 8 participants

The dialogues fostered a platform for mutual understanding and learning, where participants shared experiences and perspectives, enabling generational collaboration and insight into the challenges and opportunities of SRHR and CSE.

The Inter-Generational Dialogue Sessions provided a critical space for fostering inclusivity, promoting intergenerational understanding, and addressing pressing issues within communities. By engaging diverse participants, the intervention successfully bridged generational gaps and encouraged collaborative approaches to cultural, social, and health-related challenges. Moving forward, SLaDA will continue to strengthen such initiatives to further enhance community engagement and sustainable development.

The activity aimed to identify gaps in CSE delivery and prepare communities for the effective implementation of programs that promote sexual and reproductive health education, awareness, and rights.

Communities reached included Portloko Town, Malal, Mange, Konta, Kalangba, Petifu, Mathen, Gbaneh Bana, Masiola, Furonkoya, and Kagbanthama. She Leads Project: Gender Socialization Session

On October 15th, 2024, the She Leads Project successfully hosted a one-day session on Gender Socialization for Girls and Young Women (GYWs) and Boys and Young Men (BYWs) at Newton.

This transformative session aimed to foster understanding and challenge the stereotypes that shape young people's lives. By creating a safe and inclusive space, participants were encouraged to explore how societal norms dictate expectations and behaviors based on gender. Through engaging discussions, the activity promoted empathy, collaboration, and the breaking down of barriers to advance gender equality.

The session emphasized the early onset of gender socialization and its lasting impact on individuals’ aspirations and choices. By addressing these dynamics collectively, participants were empowered to recognize their potential, challenge restrictive norms, and embrace more equitable roles in society.

This impactful initiative is a step forward in our mission to empower youth and build a society rooted in equality and mutual respect.
