ADVOCACY ON THE PITCH! ⚽️

What a day in Port Loko!

Today at the Port Loko Stadium, we traded conference halls for the football field! We held an exciting football match bringing together stakeholders, NGS delegates, and members of the EMERGE District Youth Movement.

Proudly sponsored by GADNET, the match was all about fun, unity, and entertainment with a purpose.

Our girls were not just present, they PARTICIPATED, cheered loudly, and gave massive support throughout the entire game. That’s what inclusive advocacy looks like.

To top it off: food and drinks for all players, and certificates for outstanding performers on the pitch.🏆

Yesterday in Freetown, Salamatu spoke for girls at the Summit launch, today in Port Loko, we played for them.

Accompanied by our Executive Director to Freetown, our best female ambassador, Salamatu represented the voices of young people at a press conference and official launching of the National Girls' Summit 2026.

As part of the EMERGE Project rollout, we held a District Stakeholder Consultation on the establishment of the EMERGE Youth Movement in Port Loko District.

The session convened youth reps from the District Youth Council, youth-led CSOs, Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Port Loko District Council, among others.

Key deliberations included an overview of EMERGE, assessment of existing youth structures and operations, and recommendations for fostering inclusive, youth-centered leadership.

Together, we emerge. Clock it! 👌🏿

A productive weekend with the GADNET Port Loko team, strengthening our collective commitment ahead of the National Girls’ Summit and the rollout of the EMERGE Project in Port Loko.

As we prepare to engage district stakeholders, mobilise youth groups and establish an inclusive district youth movement, our young people have made one thing clear: we are ready to participate, lead and turn our voices into meaningful action. ✊🏿

In my capacity as District Coordinator for the Girls Advocacy Development Network (GADNET), I joined colleagues from across the country in Freetown for a one-day inception and orientation training on the EMERGE Project: Empowering Adolescents and Youth to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls, Advance Gender Equality and Strengthen Economic Resilience.

Funded by the Government of Iceland through UN Women Sierra Leone, the project will be implemented across Port Loko, Kambia, Moyamba, Bonthe and Western Area, creating another important opportunity to strengthen youth leadership, prevent violence and advance the rights and resilience of girls and young people.

As we prepare to roll out this initiative, our commitment remains clear; to work with young people, youth-led groups, advocates, communities and stakeholders to turn conversations into meaningful action.

And there is more ahead!

The National Girls’ Summit is coming to Kenema from October 13–17, and we are ready to give our best representation, amplify young voices and contribute meaningfully to shaping a future where every girl is empowered, protected and given the opportunity to thrive.

The work continues. The commitment is stronger. And together, we EMERGE.💪🏽

“Oh my God, ar need picture wit dis genius. Na dis b dae warm man dem na class!” - my former college mate, Samuel Johnny Moore, as we unexpectedly crossed paths on the streets of Freetown.

It was a brief but memorable reunion after years since university, two former classmates who once shared the same classroom, now navigating life through different paths and experiences.

Those words brought back beautiful memories of our days in class, but more than anything, the encounter reminded me of how far the journey has brought us and how much more there is ahead.

Grateful to God for the journey, the lessons, the people we meet along the way, and His Divine guidance through it all.

Alhamdulillah! 🙏🏾

Fellow youths,

Unemployment hits differently when you're a man. Family treats you differently. People lose respect for you. Nobody cares about you or what you say, and family is only nice when you have something to offer.

Wake up every day and fix your life, because the world is very cruel to a poor man.

Use that hurt as fuel. Keep learning, keep grinding, keep showing up. Your breakthrough is coming, and when it does, they’ll remember your name.

Until life challenges you, it can't change you.
