One Love Salone Foundation Supports Over 125 Students with Full Tuition Payments for the 2025/2026 Academic Year

The One Love Salone Foundation is pleased to announce the successful completion of tuition fee payments for all approved universities and colleges under its scholarship scheme for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Beyond financial support, the Foundation continues to amplify young voices and prepare young people to take on leadership roles across various disciplines. Through its inclusive approach anchored in the principle that no one should be left behind, the Foundation is creating spaces that empower young people to strengthen their productivity and contribution to society.

The Foundation is also expanding its support beyond tuition by introducing mentorship opportunities and internship placements, enabling beneficiaries to gain practical experience and develop the skills needed to transition successfully from education into the professional world.

The initiative reflects the Foundation’s broader commitment to a holistic support system, including mentorship programmes, leadership development, and encouraging beneficiaries to give back to their communities. This approach ensures that responsibility, service, and civic engagement remain embedded within the programme.

It will be recalled that in 2023 the One Love Salone Foundation launched a fully funded scholarship scheme for eligible Sierra Leonean students who, due to financial constraints, were unable to pay their tuition fees. The programme targeted undergraduate students across the country, with particular emphasis on those who demonstrated academic excellence, leadership potential, and community engagement.

Since its launch, the scholarship scheme has created opportunities for students across diverse institutions, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder academic progress.

With the support provided to over 125 beneficiaries this year, the One Love Salone Foundation reaffirms its dedication to education, gender equity, and youth empowerment in Sierra Leone.

By prioritizing academic excellence, leadership, mentorship, and professional development, the Foundation continues to invest in Sierra Leone’s human capital, helping to position students and graduates to compete confidently on the national and global stage.

One Love Salone Foundation Participates in Global Tourism Resilience Day Commemoration

Beneficiaries and students of One Love Salone Foundation recently attended the Global Tourism Resilience Day commemoration, held at the Tunde Cole Building, Fourah Bay College (FBC) in Freetown on February 17, 2026.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, brought together students and stakeholders in the tourism sector to discuss resilience strategies for the industry.

The program featured panel discussions, a student debate, and a drama performance, all centered around the theme of tourism resilience, “Tourism Resilience in Action: From Crisis Response to Impactful Transformation".

Our beneficiaries and students actively participated in the event, with some taking part in the questions and answers session of the panel discussion.

In her keynote address, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Md. Nabeela Tunis, called for collective action to transform the tourism sector of the country.

She encouraged students and stakeholders to participate in creative and innovative initiatives that will transform outbreaks into opportunities in the sector, which she believes the tourism sector sits at the intersection of all other sectors of development.

The Minister emphasized that tourism connects agriculture to hospitality, connects conservation to community income, connects digital innovation to global visibility, and connects Sierra Leone's painful history to a powerful narrative of freedom and transformation.

She stated that creativity shouldn’t just be a hobby but a driver of growth, adding that "Our music, our dance, our culture, our storytelling, and museum are all assets that we are proud of."

She noted that these assets, when utilized, can sustainably attract visitors, create jobs, empower women, engage young people, and strengthen communities.

Md. Tunis emphasized that the 2026 celebration focuses on youth-led tourism resilience and development, underscoring the role of young people in shaping the future of global travel and cultural cooperation

The Minister admonished participants to spread the message, as indicated in the inscription on the program video, "I am a young voice for tourism resilience," echoing the sentiments of our youth, who are eager to contribute to the development of Sierra Leone's tourism sector.

The Minister added that in the tourism industry, there is no discrimination, and every person has a productive role in Sierra Leone's tourism development sector. She emphasized that everyone has a God-given talent waiting to be discovered, nurtured, and amplified productively.

The Minister also highlighted that the United Nations General Assembly has declared 2027 as the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism, and countries are encouraged to promote tourism as a driver of development, inclusive growth, environmental protection, and social empowerment.

She said the youth aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow but serve as partners in today’s development process. She encouraged the youthful population to work hard in the transformation of the country’s tourism infrastructures. She concluded with the powerful campaign slogan by the Ministry stating that “Tourism Bizness Na All Man Bizness”

Attendance was strictly monitored and will play a crucial role in determining subsequent sponsorship opportunities for our beneficiaries and students. We are proud of their participation and look forward to seeing their continued growth and involvement in promoting tourism resilience in Sierra Leone.

At One Love Salone Foundation, we believe in empowering young people to become agents of change, and events like Global Tourism Resilience Day provide the perfect platform for them to develop new skills and networks.

The One Love Salone Foundation thanks the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs for being a strong partner over the years and looks forward to continued collaboration in promoting tourism development in Sierra Leone.

“‘I Am So Embarrassed, Let’s Do Something About It’ — young volunteers turn words into action for a cleaner Sierra Leone.”

11th December 2025
Western Area

A team of young volunteers—students drawn from various universities under the One Love Salone Foundation—embarked on the “I Am So Embarrassed, Let’s Do Something About It” campaign, an initiative aimed at supporting national efforts to keep the city clean.

The campaign was inspired by the powerful message of reggae icon Sizzla Kalonji, whose call to action moved many Sierra Leoneans, especially young people, to take responsibility for protecting their environment.

Armed with cleaning materials including brooms, shovels, refuse bags, face masks, and other tools, the volunteers assembled at Cotton Tree and moved through Gloucester Street, Circular Road, Campbell Street, St. John, Savage Street, and Bus Halt, carrying out a coordinated clean-up exercise.

The team demonstrated a strong belief that meaningful change and development must begin with young people. Their actions sparked curiosity and engagement among onlookers—business owners, passengers, drivers, school pupils, and residents—many of whom paused to learn more about the campaign.

The initiative was met with applause and encouragement from citizens who commended the volunteers not only for raising awareness, but for leading by example and showing practical steps everyone can take to maintain a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for all.

This course is a continuous effort that will be extended to other parts of the City of Freetown and across the country as a whole.

Stay tuned!
