To celebrate this important occasion, our team visited schools across the Western Rural District to welcome pupils and teachers back to school for the new academic year. These visits focused on sharing the relevance of literacy — why it matters not only in classrooms, but in shaping communities, protecting our planet, and building a prosperous future for all.

Celebrating the Conclusion of The Headteachers’ Leadership Training! 🌟

As Sierra Leonean Schools prepare to open in September 2026, we are excited to share the Closing Sessions of the TALLE-RSL Headteachers' Leadership Training on Gender-Responsive and School Management Systems.

Over the past week, ten School Leaders were trained to support teachers in developing DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Teaching and Learning Materials. These resources aim to improve lesson quality and make instruction more engaging, inclusive, and effective.

One of the most memorable moments was the “Make and Take” session, where every school leader designed and created teaching and learning resources. This engaging activity sparked creativity and demonstrated how local materials can be turned into effective tools for Literacy and Learning.

🌟 Empowering School Leaders for a Gender‑Responsive Teaching and Management! 🌟

As we wrap up this August week, we are thrilled to share that TALLE‑Reading Sierra Leone successfully conducted a three‑day Headteachers’ Leadership Training on Gender‑Responsive School and Management Systems conduted from 26th–28th August 2026 in our Conference Hall at TALLE-RSL headquarters.

👩🏽‍🏫 This intensive program brought together 10 Heads of Schools from 10 schools, each committed to strengthening their leadership and management capacity to prepare for the 2026-2027school year. The training focused on equipping participants with practical strategies to foster inclusive, equitable, and well‑managed learning environments where every child can thrive.

📜 At the end of the training, all participants demonstrated comprehensive readiness to help their teachers and pupils participate in promoting quality teaching and learning. Overall, they proudly received certificates from TALLE‑Reading Sierra Leone, officially endorsed by Mr. Sorie Ibrahim Turay, Executive Secretary of the Teaching Service Commission. This recognition not only validates their dedication but also marks a significant step in their professional journey as education leaders commited in making Sierra Leonea Better Nation.

Over 20% of the country's national budget is expended on the education sector, significant progress has been registered over the years, more passes, higher retention rate, school feeding and so on. However, the issue of examination malpractice tends to threaten the quality of education in Sierra Leone. On Wednesday, stakeholders in the education sector will converge at the Miatta Civic Center in a town hall meeting to discuss the way forward.
