Sierra Leone's mortality rate has been decreasing in recent years, with a number of factors contributing to this:
Death rate
In 2022, the death rate in Sierra Leone was 0.2 deaths per 1,000 people, which was a decrease from the previous year.
Maternal mortality rate
The maternal mortality rate in Sierra Leone has improved from 1,682 in 2000 to 443 in 2020. However, Sierra Leone still has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world.
Under-five mortality rate
The under-five mortality rate in Sierra Leone is 100.8 deaths per 1,000 live births.
Infant mortality rate
The infant mortality rate in Sierra Leone is 76 deaths per 1,000 live births.
Neonatal mortality rate
The neonatal mortality rate in Sierra Leone is 31 deaths per 1,000 live births.
Some of the leading causes of death in Sierra Leone include:
Maternal mortality: Obstetric hemorrhage, hypertension, obstructed labor, and sepsis
Neonatal mortality: Prematurity, asphyxia, sepsis, pneumonia, and congenital
Under-five mortality: Newborn conditions, malaria, acute respiratory infection (ARI), and diarrheal diseases
Adult mortality: Hypertension and congestive heart failure
Child mortality: Malnutrition and anemia
Many of these deaths are preventable if managed by skilled health providers. That's why we need the bill ,because professional health workers will handle this issue and solve them.
