West Africa Women and Girls Empowerment Sierra Leone (WAWGE-SL) is a National Non-governmental Humanitarian Organization that was founded on the 21st April 2012 with a focus to reduce poverty by introducing entrepreneurship solutions, improving the livelihood of the rural poor, and advocating for gender equality. Our mandate is to empower women, adolescent girls, and children’s rights, to maximize

their welfare and create opportunities for them to actualize their fullest potentials. We have seven priority areas: Promotion of Mental Health, Provision of Quality Girl Child Education, Sexual and Reproductive Health Education with special emphasis on HIV/AIDS, Agro business, Drug Abuse, Domestic Violence, Water and Sanitation, Climate Change and Environmental Champaign. Over the years WAWGE-SL has adopted an integrated approach to achieve mutual benefits, by reinforcing timely interventions. We also complement community-based response with policy advocacy to achieve its objectives.

Today we normally celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, we stand united in our commitment to the health and well-being of women and girls across West Africa. As we celebrate the power and potential of every girl, we want to remind you:

1. Girls’ Health:
“When we invest in the health of girls, we invest in the future of our communities and nations. Healthy girls become empowered women, who drive positive change in the world.”
2. Mental Health:
“Taking care of your mental health isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a powerful step toward a stronger, more resilient self. Every girl deserves to live without the shadow of stigma.”
3. Breast Cancer:

ABOUT US

The West Africa Women and Girls Empowerment-Sierra Leone (WAWGE-SL) is an educational advocacy organization to ensure students equal access to learning opportunities especially for girls. The organisation was formed, on the 21st April 2012 . This Advocacy involves effectives intervention strategies for individuals with learning disabilities and supporting research work. The organization also hosts annual conference, workshops to discuss critical issues affecting the sector and popularize any new educational programs and link the students to service providers by using the media. We are also actively involved in supporting Agriculture for Rural Women to ensure food security and entrepreneurship. The organisation address the tears and suffering encountered by women and girls in terms of r**e, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and other domestic violence against women and girls in the country.
