✨📸 Cultural Highlights with the International Women’s Club! 📸✨
A big thank-you to our wonderful member Dr. Andrea Meyer, a German Art and Museum Historian, for organizing a fascinating tour of the Sierra Leone National Museum, located near the historic Cotton Tree in Freetown.
From the rich local heritage to the special exhibition, the visit was an inspiring and educational experience for everyone. 💙💚🏛️💚💙
The special exhibition is an achievement made possible by Andrea’s research into more than two decades of largely forgotten collaboration between Germany 🇩🇪 and Sierra Leone 🇸🇱 in the field of museum work, beginning shortly after Sierra Leone gained independence, and culminating in the construction of a second gallery building in the mid-1980s.
Andrea is working with the Department of History and African Studies at Fourah Bay College to develop Cultural Heritage Studies, strengthening research, teaching, and community engagement around Sierra Leone’s rich historical and cultural legacies.
🤗 A special thank-you goes to Olivette Barnette, Curator of the National Museum, and her dedicated team for opening the museum exclusively for us—the IWC ladies and family members.
🫶 We also warmly thank all participating members for their generous donations to the museum. These contributions will support the renewal of the exhibition in this historic building and help preserve Sierra Leone’s cultural treasures.
