Our Story
Children are on the streets for many reasons, some of these reasons includes, difficult social situations at home, family unemployment, alcoholism, violence and abuse. So in giving definitions about street children we must look at the different groups of children who live on, or live off the street, for whom the street plays a central role for their survivals. For example, • Children who live on the street with no parents • Children who work on the street during the day but sleep at home during the night • Children who live on the street together with their family,in street trading • Children who move between their home, the street and bad institutions • Children who live on the street periodically • Children who are traveling (between cities and countries) We are Childhood supports Local Non -Governmental Organization that works with all these street children. Our goal is to re-integrate these children's into society. Our first steps are medical,Schooling,Counseling and Drug abuse treatment. Most of the street children have not attended school regularly due to certain situation in their communities, especially at the peninsular wherein children as well as parent live on their daily survival, from fishing, quarry Sand mining and child Labor. But these sources are very difficult for parents as well as children to earn as government has put in strong measures in place to stop some of their sources. Reasons been that parent as well as children's are destroying the natural resource , which will course flooding in the future. For these reasons children have left in afflictions, also the seaweed and land grabbers keep destroying their sources, they need help to catch up. Finding a home for a child who has been living on the street can work in a few different ways; some children have a home to go to, others need to be placed in a foster family. Our goal is that no child should live, eat or work on the street. An important strategy to prevent that a child not to end up on the street is by means of supporting their risk families. Hence, Childhood’s target groups often overlap; the work with families at risk is often a step in preventing the abuse and exploitation of children and also a way to prevent a child from ending up on the street and in any odd or bad institutions.
