Training Course on the Delivery of Vitamin A Supplementation, Deworming, and Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS)
The Christian Health Association Sierra Leone (CHASL), in collaboration with the Healey International Relief Foundation, successfully participated in a Training Course on the Delivery of Vitamin A Supplementation, Deworming, and Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS).
This important partnership continues to strengthen the capacity of frontline health workers, particularly nurses, to deliver essential nutrition and child health interventions with accuracy and confidence.
During the training, nurses enhanced their understanding of the differences among key interventions, including their composition, purpose, dosage, and timing of administration. Special emphasis was placed on the correct delivery of services for children aged 24â59 months.
Key highlights from the training included:
* Vitamin A Supplementation: Administered every six months to improve vision and boost immunity.
â * Deworming (Albendazole or Mebendazole): Given once or twice yearly to treat and prevent intestinal worm infections.
* â * Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS): Containing 15 essential vitamins and minerals, primarily used during pregnancy as a replacement for iron and folic acid supplementation, and not routinely used for children unless guided by national policy.
The training has further strengthened nursesâ capacity to deliver these life-saving interventions effectively, contributing to improved child health outcomes across communities.
Certificates were awarded to all CHASL representatives who successfully completed the course, recognizing their dedication and commitment to quality healthcare delivery.
Together, through strong partnerships, we continue to serve with compassion, excellence, and purpose.
