The Zero Corruption Campaign (ZCC) has formally presented the United Nations youth-led report on corruption to the Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, during a meeting held on Friday 10th April, 2026 at the Ministry’s office, 24 Scan Drive, Off Spur Road, Freetown.

The report, titled _*“Stolen Futures: How Corruption Hurts Young People – Findings and Recommendations from UNODC’s Youth-Led Integrity Advisory Board Regional Consultation 2025”,*_ was developed under the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) through its GRACE Initiative and reflects the lived experiences of young people on the impact of corruption globally, with actionable recommendations for reform.

Presenting the report, the Executive Director of ZCC, Elison John, expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Youth Affairs for its ongoing efforts in creating opportunities for young people to thrive. He commended the Minister for accepting to officially receive the report and stressed the importance of collective action in tackling corruption.

Mr. John noted that corruption continues to undermine opportunities for youth, limiting access to education, employment, and fair systems, and emphasized the need for strong institutional collaboration to address these challenges.

In his response, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, thanked ZCC for the presentation and described the report as timely and important. He assured the organization of the Ministry’s support in advancing the report’s recommendations and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting integrity, transparency, and accountability in governance.

The engagement forms part of ZCC’s broader efforts to localize the UNODC GRACE Initiative.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has today 9th April, 2026 at its Integrity House, Tower Hill Freetown, received a significant youth-focused report highlighting the impact of corruption on young people, reinforcing the urgent need for collective action against graft.

The report, titled _*“Stolen Futures: How Corruption Hurts Young People”,*_ developed with support from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), was formally presented to the ACC’s Coordinator of Operations, Patrick Sandi, by the Executive Director of the Zero Corruption Campaign (ZCC), Elison John.

Speaking during the presentation, Elison John highlighted the strong synergy between ZCC and the ACC, noting that the organization, as a youth-led institution, has consistently collaborated with the Commission in advancing anti-corruption efforts. He explained that the report emanates from a UNODC-led consultative process, where young people were invited to share their lived experiences of corruption through structured feedback. The outcome is a comprehensive, holistic report capturing key findings and practical recommendations. He added that stakeholders were further encouraged to localize the report to reflect national realities and strengthen its impact.

Receiving the document, Mr. Sandi commended ZCC as its partner, for what he described as _*“very important and timely work,”*_ emphasizing the value of partnerships and alliances in the fight against corruption. He noted that while corruption has long been known to disproportionately affect women and children, there is an emerging and troubling trend of its deepening impact on young people.

He further stressed that the depletion of the country’s youthful population and opportunities is closely linked to corruption, making the report both relevant and urgent. According to him,

As a youth-led anti-corruption advocacy organization dedicated to promoting transparency and accountability, we would like to thank UNODC, especially the GRACE Initiative Team, for putting this report together.

This report represents the thoughts of 1.9 billion people across the globe. As African youths and leaders, we see the demand for transparency as a fundamental right. This particular report gives us the courage to continue our work toward a corruption-free future.

In the coming days, we will ensure that this report is localized by presenting it to relevant stakeholders and engaging with the media to ensure that young people understand its content.

Corruption limits access to essential services and too often favours connections and financial means rather than merit.

A new UNODC report highlights how the world’s 1.9 billion young people experience corruption in their daily lives.

Young people surveyed emphasized the need to address corruption in education, strengthen whistle-blower protections and advance youth-led initiatives.

Initiatives such as the UNODC YouthLED Board aim to empower young people with the tools, knowledge and space to realize their potential as drivers of integrity.
