We are proud to share that Sierra Leone Youth Initiative Network successfully organized a Youth Consultation for Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day 2025, part of the largest annual global youth adaptation event.

Through this global effort, youth voices from 90 countries were engaged in consultations on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), reaching over 31 million people worldwide on social media. This powerful collective action highlights the critical role young people play in shaping climate adaptation policies and solutions.

We are deeply grateful to the Youth Leadership and Education Team for recognizing our contribution and for the certificate of appreciation. Most importantly, we thank the young people, partners, and volunteers who made this consultation impactful and inclusive.

As we continue to amplify youth-led climate action in Sierra Leone and beyond, we remain committed to ensuring that youth voices are heard, valued, and reflected in national and global climate processes.

The journey continues, see you at Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day 2026!

Today, we proudly joined the National Commission for Democracy-Sierra Leone to commemorate the International Day of Democracy with support from European Union Sierra Leone, International IDEA, and the Government of Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone’s journey from war to peace and its ongoing democratic reform remains a globally recognized case study in post-conflict peacebuilding and democratic consolidation. Yet, over two decades after the end of the civil war in 2002, the nation continues to face the dual challenge of deepening democratic institutions and fostering inclusive peace.

As we officially participated in the launch of the State of Democracy Assessment Report, alongside government agencies, civil society actors, international partners, and donor agencies, we echoed a strong call to action for increased youth participation in democracy and good governance.

This launch marks a significant benchmark in Sierra Leone’s democratic journey a moment to reflect on our collective progress toward freedom, respect for human rights, and the commitment to free, fair, and credible elections. It also reaffirms the importance of civil liberties, accountability of power holders, and the supremacy of the rule of law.

Young people must not only be part of the conversation but part of the solution. Democracy thrives when youth are engaged.

As the rainy season intensifies in Sierra Leone, vulnerable slum communities continue to face severe challenges. Flooding, landslides, and poor drainage systems exacerbated by the growing impacts of climate change have claimed countless lives and displaced families year after year.

Despite the devastating reality, climate issues in these local communities remain largely unaddressed. The Sierra Leone Youth Initiative Network is raising its voice and calling for urgent action. We are appealing to international donors, development partners, and climate-focused organizations to join us in supporting local efforts to build resilience and protect lives.

We must act now. The time for climate justice is not tomorrow it is today.
