African Women Leaders Network - Sierra Leone

African Women Leaders Network - Sierra Leone It is a joint initiative of the African Union and UN Women.

The African Women’s Leaders Network Sierra Leone Chapter (AWLN-SL) is a registered NGO with the Ministry of Gender and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to promote women's leadership and empowerment. The African Women Leaders Network initiative was established through The African Union (AU) Commission, and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women

(UN WOMEN) with the support of the Federal Republic of Germany during a high-level “Women Leaders Forum for Africa’s Transformation” conference held in New York at the UN Headquarters in 2017. The initiative seeks to enhance the leadership of African women in the transformation of the continent, in line with the Global 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and Africa Agenda 2063 “The Africa We Want”. The forum seeks to create a space for African women leaders to share experiences and lessons learned with the aim of enhancing their transformative participation in decision-making. It provides an opportunity for a wide range of African women leaders and partners to look collectively at the peace, security and development nexus, and reaffirm the critical importance of gender equality towards achieving sustainable development in Africa.
