Episode 3: Fertilizer
Fertilizer is one of the key inputs farmers depend on to improve productivity. But access alone is not enough. Farmers need access to quality fertilizer, reliable information, trusted distributors, fair prices, and effective regulatory protection.

We need stronger monitoring of fertilizer dealers, a clear and publicly accessible list of certified distributors, tougher action against illegal vendors, and greater transparency in fertilizer pricing.

Most importantly, our regulatory institutions must be visible where farming is actually happening—not only in Freetown, but in the communities and provinces where our farmers produce the food that feeds the nation.

Protecting farmers means protecting our food system.

At NaFFSL, we believe that achieving Feed Salone requires farmers to be informed, protected, and meaningfully included in the agricultural transformation.

Quality inputs. Fair prices. Strong regulation. Empowered farmers. Food-secure Sierra Leone.

Agricultural mechanization is not measured by the number of tractors purchased;it is measured by the number of farmers who can actually access them.

Over the years, more than 200 tractors have reportedly been procured to support mechanized farming. Yet many farmers still do not know who the service providers are or how to benefit from these services.

If we are serious about achieving Feed Salone, transparency and accountability are essential. Farmers deserve to know who the service providers are, which communities they serve, and who they are accountable to.

Public investment should produce public results. Let's ensure agricultural mechanization reaches the farmers it was intended to serve.

Episode 2: Mechanization
Agricultural mechanization is not measured by the number of tractors purchased;it is measured by the number of farmers whose lives are transformed.

Over the years, more than 200 tractors have reportedly been procured and distributed across Sierra Leone to support mechanized farming. Yet a simple question remains unanswered:

Where are the service providers, and how can farmers access them?

If these tractors were distributed to every district, why do so many farmers still rely on manual labor? Why don't farmers know who to contact? Who is responsible for ensuring these machines are serving the people they were purchased for?

These are not political questions;they are questions of accountability, transparency, and public service.

If we truly want to achieve Feed Salone, information must reach the last mile. Farmers should not have to guess where these services are or who manages them. Public investments must produce public results.

It's time to make the list of tractor service providers public, clearly define the communities they serve, and establish a system that allows farmers to access mechanization without confusion or unnecessary barriers.

Agriculture will not be transformed by machines alone;it will be transformed when every farmer can actually benefit from them.

Achieving Feed Salone is not just about increasing production,it starts with ensuring that every farmer has access to certified, high-quality seeds.

This means:
✅ Making information on certified seed vendors easily accessible to farmers.
✅ Cracking down on illegal seed vendors who undermine farmers' livelihoods.
✅ Making seed information public instead of keeping it hidden in offices and filing cabinets.
✅ Taking seed services closer to farming communities across the provinces, where the majority of food is produced.
✅ Strengthening monitoring and inspection to ensure that only viable, quality seeds reach our farmers.

When farmers plant quality seeds, they harvest better yields. When they harvest more, families prosper, markets grow, and Sierra Leone moves closer to achieving sustainable food security.

Quality seeds are not a luxury—they are a necessity for a food-secure Sierra Leone.
