🚫⚽ **World Day Against Child Labour 2026**

Today, we join the global community in showing a **Red Card to Child Labour** and standing up for every child's right to learn, grow, and thrive.

This year's theme, **"Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults,"** reminds us that no child should be forced to work instead of attending school, playing, and enjoying a safe childhood.

In Sierra Leone, child labour continues to affect thousands of children, especially girls who often face the double burden of domestic work and limited educational opportunities. Child labour not only robs children of their future but also reinforces poverty, inequality, and gender injustice.

As we work towards gender equality and social justice, we call on parents, communities, leaders, employers, and policymakers to protect children from exploitation, promote quality education, and create decent livelihood opportunities for families.

Every child deserves a childhood. Every girl deserves the opportunity to stay in school. Every child deserves protection from hazardous work.

Together, let's raise a red card against child labour and build a Sierra Leone where every child can reach their full potential.

**World Environment Day 2026**

A healthy environment is essential for healthy communities, gender equality, and sustainable development.

In Sierra Leone, the effects of climate change, environmental degradation, and poor waste management are felt by everyone, but women and girls often face the greatest challenges. From increased caregiving responsibilities to limited access to natural resources, environmental issues can deepen existing gender inequalities.

At MAGE-SL, we recognize that environmental sustainability and gender justice go hand in hand. When women and girls have equal opportunities to participate in decision-making and climate action, communities become stronger, more resilient, and better equipped to respond to environmental challenges.

As we commemorate World Environment Day, we call on all citizens to protect our environment, promote sustainable practices, and support the meaningful participation of women and girls in building a greener and more equitable Sierra Leone.

Together, we can create a future where people and the planet thrive.

Last Thursday marked an important milestone as we officially launched the new “Man Kia Skul” project through a successful Community Entrance Meeting in Susan’s Bay under the FCC Care Block initiative.
Together with community members, local leaders, women, youth, and partner organisations, we gathered to introduce the vision behind the Man Kia Skul: a space where men can learn, reflect, and grow together, promoting stronger families, positive fatherhood, shared caregiving, non-violence, and gender equality.
The meeting created an open platform for dialogue, questions, and community engagement, highlighting the importance of involving men and boys in building peaceful homes and healthier communities. Participants shared their thoughts, expectations, and commitment to becoming part of this important journey.
At MAGE-SL, we believe that lasting social change happens through community ownership, respectful dialogue, and collective action. We are excited to begin this journey together with the people of Susan’s Bay.
A special thank you to the Freetown City Council -IEC Department (FCC), WoLead-SL, community stakeholders, volunteers, and all participants who contributed to making this launch meaningful and successful.
Together, we continue promoting gender justice, human rights, and family well-being in Sierra Leone.

Today, on the International Day of Families, we celebrate the importance of building peaceful, caring, and gender-equal homes and communities.
As the Men’s Association for Gender Equality Sierra Leone, we are proud to have officially launched the Man Kia Skul component of the Freetown Caring City Project — a safe and respectful space where men and boys come together to learn practical skills that strengthen family relationships and communities.
Through this initiative, we continue to promote the recognition of caregivers’ work, the redistribution of care responsibilities more equally, and the reduction of unpaid care work that disproportionately affects women and girls.
Together with our Civil Peace Service Project, we are also empowering communities with the knowledge and skills needed to promote peace at home and within our communities.
Strong families create strong communities. When men and boys actively support care work, equality, and peace, everyone benefits.
Happy International Day of Families!

We have news! Soon we will be part of the Freetown Caring City - Care Block. We will launch the “Man Kia Skul” – Men for Family Well-Being!
We are proud to announce that we start the FCC “Man Kia Skul”, as part of the Freetown Caring City – Care Block initiative. 🤝🏾
This programme brings men together to reflect, learn, and take action for stronger families and healthier communities. Through weekly sessions, participants will explore:
- Positive fatherhood and shared caregiving
- Household responsibilities and practical life skills
- Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)
- Communication, respect, and non-violent relationships
- Challenging harmful gender norms

“Man Kia Skul” is about recognising the vital role men play in family well-being, and supporting them to become active, caring, and responsible partners and fathers. 💛
By engaging men directly, we aim to reduce unpaid care burdens on women, strengthen relationships, and promote gender equality at the household level.
We are excited to begin this journey with our first group of participants and look forward to the positive change that will grow from these conversations. 🌱
Together, we are building communities where care, respect, and equality are shared by all.

Refraim the narrative: Our language is powerful - it shapes thoughts, and it drives action. FGM; call it out for what it is: A HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION - not culture, not tradition, not religion!

💜 We All Have a Role to Play in Mental Health Support 💜

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🧠, a reminder that supporting survivors of sexual and gender-based violence requires collective action 🤝. Healing does not happen in isolation; it thrives in safe, supportive communities 🌍💙.

What You Can Do:
✔ 👂 Listen without judgment– Create safe spaces where survivors feel heard
✔ 🤍 Support survivors – Show empathy and believe their experiences
✔ 📣 Challenge stigma – Speak out against harmful beliefs and attitudes
✔ 🏥 Promote access to care – Encourage and connect survivors to support services

Together, we can create a society where survivors feel safe 🛡️, supported 🤝, and empowered to heal 💜.

✊🏾 International Labour Day – 1 May ✊🏾
Today, MAGE-SL joins the world in recognising International Labour Day! A day to honour the dignity, rights, and contributions of workers everywhere.
In Sierra Leone, workers are the backbone of our communities: from farmers and traders to teachers, caregivers, and frontline responders. Yet, not all work is equally recognised or valued. Too often, unpaid care work - carried largely by women and girls - remains invisible, despite being essential to families and the economy.
At MAGE-SL, we believe that decent work must also mean:
- Fair opportunities for women and men
- Safe and respectful working environments
- Recognition and redistribution of unpaid care work
- Protection from exploitation and gender-based violence
- Equal access to leadership and decision-making spaces
As we reflect on labour and dignity, we also call for greater investment in youth employment, skills development, and inclusive economic opportunities — because a just society is built when everyone has the chance to contribute and thrive.
Labour Day is not only about celebrating work — it is about advancing fairness, equality, and human rights in every workplace and every home.
Together, let us continue to build a future where all labour is valued and all workers are respected. 🤝🏾
