As we celebrate World Chimpanzee Day, we would like to use this opportunity to call on every Sierra Leonean to desist from any activity that affects the well-being of our national animal, the Chimpanzee. Chimpanzees are our closest genetic relatives in the animal Kingdom and their existence is just as important as ours. They play a crucial role in our forest ecosystem, contributing to seed dispersal and forest regeneration. Let us support conservation efforts and report illegal activities affecting chimpanzees and their habitat to ensure they thrive in Sierra Leone.

Congratulations to all the selected biodiversity enthusiasts. We are looking forward to your participations as we join forces to halt biodiversity loss in our different communities.

🌟 Big Announcement! 🌟

After a thorough review of over 9,000 applications, we have sent the IYCB application results this weekend. 📧 Please check your email if you have applied.

We received many exceptional applications and, while we wish we could accommodate everyone, we couldn’t bring all on board. Congratulations to the selected participants! 🎉

To those who were not selected this time, please do not be discouraged. 💪 Your passion and dedication to biodiversity are genuinely inspiring. 🌿

Everybody in this community is an essential part of the Biodiversity Movement. 🌍 All your actions matter and make a difference! It’s just that we don’t have enough funding for everyone, and we need to make tough choices. We can assure you that our team did their best to be as fair as possible. 🤝

GYBN remains resolute in our mission to create more online and on-site opportunities for young, committed, and dynamic advocates like you. Keep up your incredible work, and stay tuned for future chances to engage. 🔜

WE SECURED A SEAT AT THE HIGH TABLE IN A MULTISTAKEHOLDER BIODIVERSITY CONSULTATION MEETING IN SIERRA LEONE.
Our dynamic and result-oriented national coordinator, kamara represented us in a high-profile multi-stakeholder meeting on the establishment/Strengthening of the National Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (CABES) project. The meeting brought together different stakeholders in Sierra Leone’s biodiversity landscape to map out existing structure(s) in the establishment or enhancement of existing national platforms that support dialogue on biodiversity and ecosystem services issues between stakeholder groups such as policymakers, knowledge holders, academics, civil society, private sector and cross-sectional stakeholders and identify entry points for integrating biodiversity and ecosystem services into strategic national, sub-national and sectoral policies, plans, strategies and legislation.

One of our objectives is to actively participate in reviewing Sierra Leone’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. On 6 June 2024, we had the opportunity to meet with the CBD focal point in Sierra Leone. We had a lengthy conversation about the Sierra Leone Youth Biodiversity Network's participation in the Review and Update of Sierra Leone’s second National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2017 to 2026. The focal point highlighted the need for the active involvement of youth in reviewing and updating Sierra Leone’s second National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan from 2017 to 2026.
