Today, April 2nd, we join the global community in observing World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD). This year’s theme, “Autism and Humanity – Every Life Has Value,” serves as a profound call to recognize the inherent dignity and unconditional worth of autistic individuals as integral participants in our collective future.
As an organization we view the inclusion of neurodivergent individuals not merely as a social courtesy, but as a fundamental requirement for resilient and equitable societies. In an era where misinformation and regressive rhetoric can resurface, it is our professional and ethical duty to challenge limiting narratives and dismantle the barriers that prevent full societal participation.
At Goodwill Humanitarian Foundation Sierra Leone, we believe that "Every Life Has Value" means moving beyond basic awareness toward active Acceptance, Understanding, and Institutional Support. True leadership requires us to foster environments—whether in the classroom, the community, or the corporate sector—where the unique perspectives of autistic people are valued and protected.
On this WAAD 2026, let us recommit to a human rights-based approach that affirms the rights of every individual to live with dignity. It is through this inclusive lens that we truly as leaders and for humanity.
