The Sierra Leone credit union delegation joined counterparts from Liberia, Ghana, Malawi, Kenya, Cameroon, The Gambia, Germany, and other countries at the 2026 Western Regional Bloc Forum in Banjul.

The forum, organized by the African Confederation Of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations and hosted by the National Association of Cooperative Credit Unions of The Gambia brought together sector leaders for three days of strategic dialogue.

Discussions centered on strengthening governance systems, promoting ethical stewardship and standards, enhancing sustainable growth, and reinforcing risk management frameworks—all aimed at building a resilient and trusted cooperative credit union movement across the region and beyond.

NACCUGSoft Phase Two Rollout Completed! 🎉

We have successfully concluded Phase Two of the Credit Union Core Banking System (NACCUGSoft) rollout to Upper Bambara, Peje West, and Mutual Credit Unions.

These Credit Unions are now fully onboarded onto the CU Core Banking System, with full General Ledger (GL) integration, enabling real-time financial reporting, automated updates, and enhanced financial reporting accuracy and transparency.

With this digital transformation, Credit Unions in Sierra Leone are set to streamline operations, improve transaction accuracy, and provide members with a more seamless and efficient service experience.

We extend our sincere gratitude German Sparkassenstiftung Western Africa for funding this impactful initiative, implemented in partnership with the National Cooperative Credit Union Association- Sierra Leone -naccua and the National Association of Cooperative Credit Unions of The Gambia

Special appreciation to Patrick Mendy, Deputy CEO & Finance Director, NACCUG, and Alagie Kuyateh, Director of IT, for their invaluable support. This collaboration reaffirms a shared commitment to sustainable financial sector development and cooperative growth.

This week, we were delighted to welcome the Moore Ireland team to Sierra Leone.

The team is working with ILCU International Development Foundation to support the development of robust audit and internal control systems for the Sierra Leone Credit Union (CU) sector.

During their visit, the Moore Ireland team engaged with Tawopaneh CU and UPS CU to gain practical insights into the operation of the NaCCU Soft and Easybook systems. They also held consultative meetings with external auditors—KTB and Peter Kamaray & Co., Auditors—to better understand existing audit challenges, opportunities, and potential solutions within the CU sector.

Today marks the conclusion of a four-day training programme focused on audit tools essential for accurate credit union record-keeping and effective audits. The training targeted participants from ILCUF, NaCCUA, and the Department of Cooperatives (DOC).

In the coming weeks, the Moore Ireland team will join NaCCUA and DOC audit teams to pilot and test these audit tools at UPS CU, marking an important step toward strengthening audit practices across the sector.

Moore Ireland is a full-service accountancy and advisory firm operating across 116 countries and providing services in audit, tax, advisory, corporate finance, corporate compliance, and business support.

This week, we successfully completed a week-long leadership training for our staff and volunteers involved in the Credit Union Movement.

The training was delivered by Deirdre Foley (HPC) from Ireland, who facilitated the High-Performance Leadership Journey for 12 participants, alongside Una McDevitt, Technical Adviser from ILCU Foundation.

This programme provides a valuable opportunity to develop future leaders of the movement in the country. Module 1 was delivered this week, with Module 2 scheduled for later in the year.

We extend our sincere appreciation to ILCU International Development Foundation for their continued support and Deirdre Foley for generously volunteering her time, carefully preparing the sessions, and sharing her expertise.

Following a series of productive engagements and strategic planning discussions, we are pleased to have successfully concluded our sessions with one of our partners, Cate Fraedrich, Programme Manager from the ILCU International Development Foundation , Dublin team, Ireland. Her visit was both timely and impactful, energizing our team and reaffirming our shared commitment to achieving stronger results and sustainable impact.

During her visit, Cate engaged with key national stakeholders, including the Irish Ambassador to Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the Bank of Sierra Leone, and the Department of Cooperatives. These discussions focused on the growth and development of the credit union movement in Sierra Leone, as well as opportunities for collaboration and support.

Cate also held meetings with the management and staff of Tawopaneh and Bayconfields Credit Unions. The visits provided an opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the operations of the CU including their strategic direction, growth plans, as well as the challenges and opportunities they face.

Overall, the visit strengthened partnerships, enhanced mutual understanding, and reinforced our collective commitment to advancing credit union development in the country.
