Protecting Children, One Bed Net at a Time

Today marks another important milestone in our commitment to improving the health and well-being of children in District. Through the generous support of the (DHMT), successfully distributed 1,279 Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) to pupils in two secondary schools and six primary schools ( , , etc) across communities including , , , and other surrounding areas within and .

This intervention forms part of our broader effort to reduce malaria infections and ensure that children can learn, grow, and thrive in a healthy environment.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Paramount Chiefs of Kpejeh Bongre and Njahun Chiefdoms for their warm reception, leadership, and unwavering support throughout this exercise.

We are equally grateful to ChildFund Sierra Leone for its continued trust and partnership in supporting school-going children and their families across Kailahun District.

A child’s voice of gratitude

ā€œBefore today, many of us did not have a bed net to sleep under every night. Now, I feel safer from mosquitoes and malaria. Thank you to Ndomakeh Federation, ChildFund Sierra Leone, and everyone who made this possible. You are helping us stay healthy so we can continue our education and achieve our dreams.ā€

, in partnership with ChildFund Sierra Leone and through generous support from the , has successfully distributed 1,739 Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Nets (LLINs) to pupils and families at Mandu Secondary School and SLMB Primary School in Mobai and Baiima respectively.

This latest intervention builds on the major malaria prevention campaign conducted earlier this year in January, where over 4,500 treated bed nets were distributed across:
• 13 communities including Baiwalla, Sienga, Dodo, Jojoima and others
• 5 Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centers in Daru, Segbwema and surrounding communities
• 3 Primary Schools in Fejia, Dambu and Dablama
• 3 Secondary Schools in Mobai, Segbwema and Daru

The entire distribution exercise was implemented in close collaboration with the (DHMT) and their (PHUs), ensuring transparency, proper targeting, and effective community engagement.

Today, we are proud to share that the impact is already visible.

According to recent reports from the DHMT, there has been a significant reduction in malaria cases reported in many of the communities and schools where the first phase of bed nets was distributed. Families are becoming more aware of malaria prevention practices, and most importantly, children are healthier and attending school more regularly throughout the academic term compared to previous years.

For many families, access to treated bed nets is not just about sleeping safely at night it is about protecting lives, improving school attendance, reducing medical expenses, and creating healthier communities.

This achievement reflects the power of partnership and community-driven action. We remain committed to supporting vulnerable children and their families through sustainable health and child protection interventions across Kailahun District.

Special appreciation goes to: ChildFund Sierra Leone for their continuous partnership and dedication to child wellbeing for funding this life-saving initiative Kailahun DHMT and PHUs for their technical support and coordination Community leaders, teachers, parents, and volunteers who made the exercise successful

Together, we are creating safer and healthier communities for children to thrive.
