Africa at the Centre – Leading Change, Shifting Power
From 1–3 September 2026, Movement towards Education and Youth Empowerment-Sierra Leone participated in the Africa at the Centre: Leading Change, Shifting Power convening at Alisa Hotel, Accra, Ghana. The event brought together African civil society leaders, policymakers, development practitioners, funders and changemakers to discuss African ownership, locally led development, resource control, youth leadership, indigenous knowledge and the need to shift decision-making power to African institutions and communities.
Participation provided our organisation with valuable exposure to innovative approaches, regional experiences and potential partners working on education, youth empowerment, governance and systems change. The experience will strengthen our advocacy by encouraging us to promote African-led solutions, meaningful youth participation and community-driven development. We can also utilise the networks established to develop strategic partnerships, share knowledge, mobilise resources and participate in regional advocacy platforms.
Moving forward, we should integrate the lessons into our programmes, particularly by strengthening youth voices in policy engagement and ensuring communities play a greater role in defining development priorities and solutions.
