UVMP Košice Falconry & Raptor Rehabilitation Club Falconry & Raptor Rehabilitation Club based at the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Kosice, Slovakia

Falconry & Raptor Rehabilitation Club at the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice. Voluntary club of trainers of birds of prey from among the staff and students. The primary objective of the club is to provide care for disabled and rehabilitated birds that come into clinics and rehabilitation network stations in Slovakia and train birds of prey as falconry birds.

🦉 Children's Day at the Kindergarten in Cestice 🪶

We celebrated International Children's Day (June 1) with the wonderful children of the kindergarten in Cestice.

During the event, the children learned interesting facts about hunting, had the opportunity to see hunting trophies, and listened to a demonstration of game calling. Our members also introduced them to the world of falconry, shared fascinating facts about birds of prey, and even learned from the children that owls can be found in their village as well!

The highlight of the day was meeting Malachi, a male saker falcon (Falco cherrug) and Nyx our barn owl (Tyto alba). The children could gently pet them, take a closer look, and ask plenty of questions.

After all, those who ask a lot, learn a lot! 😊🦉🪶

On Sunday, May 24, our members and Dr. MVDr. Ladislav Molnár, PhD., participated in the Košice Club Fest benefit event.

The Falconry and Raptors Rehabilitation Club also presented itself at the event. Club members answered questions from curious children and their parents. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about raptors, falconry, and what to do when they find a baby raptor in the wild during spring. Children admired the raptors, which they could hold and take pictures with.

We presented three of our birds at the event: Argos, a male red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis), Borte, a male saker falcon (Falco cherrug), and our new owl, Nyx, a barn owl (Tyto alba).

Despite the great heat, we all enjoyed the event. We are very pleased with people's interest in falconry.

Scissor beak in falcons is a deformity in which upper and lower beak go in different directions- they cross. Our members had the opportunity to cope the scissor beak of the falcon. In this case the curve starts from the cere and there is probably no possibility to completely correct it. So we tried at least to trim it, so it's easier for the falcon to eat and have nice life.
