The hub for strong communities
Starport project began in 2016 when it was already too obvious that Košice’s startup ecosystem is seriously missing something essential in it’s core and it won’t fix itself. I decided to set up a beacon that will attract pioneering minds in our city in order to find a way to make the local startup scene much more interesting. After almost 2 years of desperate and expensive efforts to set up base in the centre of our city, I got introduced to Peter Urban. For a while we tried to find a way to fund the space in logn term and after few dead ends we wrapped up, dropping the rented space. In may 2018 I managed to open smaller version of Starport in a family house (just like in SV) near the centre. After a while I collected a great set of people in there and together with Peter we decided to use the summer to finally make our dent into the local startup ecosystem.
After 6 months of guessing, trying, planning and failing, we figured out that we want to create a startup camp. It was all great, we had space, some participants in mind and some of our own money to pull off at least some test version of it.
For 12 weeks we consulted all local startups we found among our friends and at the same time we tried to find someone who would allow us to offer some money to all the startups.
Our partners loved our we-will-do-it-anyway approach and we actually got funded.
