Slovenia Connects - Rebuild Ukraine

Last week, our municipality Občina Kočevje was hosting a group of children from their partner municipality Бучанська міська рада., and enabled a most needed peaceful break for 44 Ukrainian children and youngsters aged 8 - 18. Centre for European Perspective - CEP is privileged to support annual summer stays in Slovenia for as many Ukrainian children as possible - for whom this is the only chance to forget, at least for a short while, their daily fears and personal circumstances - as one of our many activities in Ukraine enabled by Ministrstvo za zunanje in evropske zadeve RS / Slovenian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

Ukrainian local and regional authorities completed a thematic cluster visit to Slovenia (6–10 July 2026) on Slovenian models for sustainable housing, with particular attention to responses for internally displaced persons. 🇺🇦🏡

The delegation took part in expert briefings (Zadrugator, MOBA Housing, Cedos IPoP - Inštitut za politike prostora), national and municipal policy sessions (Ministrstvo za okolje, podnebje in energijo; Housing Fund of the Republic of Slovenia; City of Ljubljana’s Housing Fund), strategy and implementation workshops (full-day Strategy Lab at IEDC-Bled School of Management with Dr Nenad Filipović), participatory design sessions (Prostorož), and site visits to non-profit housing developments in Ljubljana (Novo Brdo) and Celje (Nova Vas), plus hands-on local examples of assisted living and community regeneration. 🧑‍🧒‍🧒🙌🏻

Beyond practical knowledge transfer on inclusive planning, affordable and energy-efficient housing models, and IDP rent-subsidy challenges, the visit generated new partnerships with Slovenian research centres, municipalities, non-profit housing actors and specialised NGOs — creating concrete collaboration opportunities for joint projects, financing tools, pilot interventions and capacity building. It also established a solid basis for the thematic cluster that will bring together participating Ukrainian institutions and Slovenian partners to continue shared work on sustainable, resilient housing solutions for Ukraine. 🇺🇦🇸🇮📈🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

Representatives of 9 Ukrainian hromadas and Lviv Regional Military Administration launched their first set of workshops this morning, part of the thematic cluster visit to Slovenia on sustainable housing in Ukraine (Programme "Recovery and Reconstruction in Ukraine"). 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

The visit brings together Slovenian housing experts, municipalities, housing cooperatives, architectural businesses, Slovenian Housing Development Fund, includes field visits to social housing projects and is executed with the lead partner Zadrugator/Institute for Studies of Housing and Space (IŠSP). It also combines the expertise of Cedos - Ukrainian think tank for social and spatial development, Ministrstvo za okolje, podnebje in energijo, IEDC-Bled School of Management and Mestna občina Celje.

🏘️ Slovenian Models for Sustainable Housing: Practical Solutions for Ukrainian Regions and IDP Response🇺🇦

From 6–10 July 2026, CEP is hosting a thematic visit in Ljubljana, Bled and Celje, bringing together Ukrainian representatives of municipalities, regional authorities and housing experts.

Throughout the week, participants will explore Slovenian experiences in sustainable and affordable housing, non-profit housing models, municipal housing strategies, innovative financing mechanisms and participatory urban planning. Through expert discussions, workshops and study visits, they will exchange knowledge and identify practical solutions that can support Ukraine's housing reconstruction and long-term resilience.

This visit is part of CEP's continued support for Ukraine's recovery, reconstruction and European integration.

𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐧𝐨 𝐬𝐞 𝐳𝐚𝐜̌𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐤𝐚𝐥𝐧𝐨 – 𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐚 𝐎𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐧𝐢 𝐬̌𝐨𝐥𝐢 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐭.🌍🏡

Skupaj z učenci 9. razreda Osnovne šole Lenart smo raziskovali pomen mednarodnega razvojnega sodelovanja, vlogo Slovenije pri podpori razvojnim projektom ter naše aktivnosti v Ukrajini. Ob tem smo razpravljali o tem, kako lahko mednarodna solidarnost prispeva k bolj vključujoči, pravični in trajnostni prihodnosti. 🇺🇦♻️

Učenci in učenke so skozi razmišljanje o ciljih trajnostnega razvoja iskali povezave z lastnimi vrednotami, izkušnjami in vsakdanjim življenjem. Svoje poglede in ideje so nato izrazili tudi skozi ustvarjalne vizualne izdelke, ki so nastali v okviru delavnice. 🎨🖌️

Posebna zahvala gre Zavodu Povod za dragoceno sodelovanje in strokovno podporo. Skupno delo je ponovno pokazalo, kako pomembno je povezovanje slovenskih razvojnih organizacij ter koliko lahko dosežemo s sodelovanjem. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼
